First Dance

What are you guys usig for first dance? How many have been (or will) taking dance lessons?

We want to use "Lucky" by Jason Mroz, love that song and since FI truly is my best friend, I think it fits. I also love "I Could Not Ask For More" by Sarah Evans, and at one point wanted to use this as our 1st dance. I know, such different choices! I think if we can do some lessons, maybe learn to fox trot, we can attempt "Lucky." "ICNAFM" is more of a simple backup. I was in love with the idea of something fun and upbeat, but I have NO sense of rhythym and now want something short and simple!

Advice???

And please share what your choice is!

P.S...we were also considering whichever we choose, having our WP and their SOs join in midway if they'd like, instead of doing a separate WP dance.

Re: First Dance

  • Lucky is a beautiful song (I had to google it) but yes would probably be a bit tricky to dance to but you could get a few lessons.  I can totally picture the foxtrot to it, that would be so cute!

FI and I are doing a combo...we are starting off with a slow italian song for about 2 mins and then switching into the same song in a spanish, salsa version:  After a min or so into that song we'll have the dj invite everyone to join in.

  • We're doing Little Moments by Brad Paisley....We both feel that the little moments are what count...and I pretty much have done everything mentioned in that song (even the truck on..ooops!)

    No dance lessons...
  • We are doing Could Not Ask For More but the Edwin McCain version.

  • I love "Lucky" and I think you could totally dance to it! FI and I are going to take one (that's what he agreed to!) dance lesson. But, we have not yet chosen a first dance song.

We like "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green and "You Are The Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne".

Are you guys doing a grand entrance? If so, what is your song for that? I am having trouble deciding on that!

  • We are dancing to John Legend "Stay with You". We had been dating for about 8 months and I was on my way to his house thinking about all of the crappy things that had happened that day. I walked into his room and he started singing to me and everything just melted away. We aren't taking lessons other than probably just practicing in our living room.
  • We are dancing to share my life by kem. We aren't taking dance lessons but we will practice a couple of times at home.
  • We are still between "Precious Love" by James Morrison and "100 Miles" by the Proclaimers.  We are taking lessons (we also lack a general sense of rhythm)

Of the two you mentioned I prefer "Lucky" just because it's a little newer and fresher

  • We're dancing to "At Last" by Etta James and we are taking dance lessons. So glad we did because our instructor was able to take our song and tell us the kind of dance we needed to do for it - a foxtrot. It's been fun seeing it all come together.

We also love "Lucky" but decided to use it in our slideshow for the rehearsal dinner, along with "Brighter Than the Sun" . FI's niece is doing the show for us and I can't wait to see it.

  • The last wedding we went to they couple used "Lucky" for their first dance and it was really cute. I like it that its playful and fun. FI and I are using "Baby I Love Your Way" by Big Mountain, it's also a more upbeat playful song. We took a couple dance lessons so far and the instructors gave us a choice of 3 dances to do that would work. We chose the "foxie" to do. I like the idea of doing something a little different that a typical super slow sappy song, sine FI and I are outgoing and fun people and its perfect for our personalities.
