Dont really know you girls yet but I wanted to put this up. My mother works for a cancer hospital and has told me that brest cancer is (this is a weird thing to say) one of the better cancers to get. If she found it early there are many many treatment options she has. Also my advice is do NOT go to just any docotr. We live in Philadelphia and there are lots of great hospitals around. Her best chance of getting the best treatment is to do your research and find the best oncologists in town.

She is do just fine and come out on the other side a stronger woman!

Thanks girls. This is just hard to wrap my head around.  I really hope it is an early stage as they said.

Rach- She was going to go to doylestown hospital for the treatment, but I might talk to her about Fox Chase as they are a good cancer hospital.

Breast Cancer runs in my family too - but all the women who have ever had it, none one has ever died from it.. so keep that in mind!     Early detection is HUGE.   Trust me.  If it's a small tumor, and isolated, she may not even need chemo just the radiation.  Thoughts  & prayers with you.

Honestly finding top rated cancer hospitals can mean the difference between life and death for people. Now, a small tumor isn’t as bad as all that (its very treatable), and breast cancer is more common and there for more doctors can handle it.  But a good friend of mine's mom was diagnosed last year with stage 3 breast cancer (much much worse than a small tumor) and she just went to the hospital in West Chester for treatment and had all kinds of complications because of the dr. She is fine and cancer free now thank god but I know how hard it was on their family.

I don't say any of that to scare you but I do know having the best drs can make a world of difference. She could also do the radiation in Doylestown and have the surgery at Fox Chase (you could look into UPenn or another teaching hospital also). The surgery is the much tricker part.

Ok hope I didn’t over load you there. But I my uncle passed away 2 years ago (from a VERY rare cancer) and so I know how scary it can all be. She is so lucky to have found it early and I know she will be healthy and happy by this time next year

oods- Thanks. I know i should not worry too much but it is still scary. She is the first one to get breast cancer so it is crappy. I really hope it is as small as they think it is, or say it is. I just keep thinking about that stupid blog someone posted a month or whatever ago. ughhhhh.

My thoughts and prayers for your mom and your family. It runs in my family too- both sides- both grandmoms had it- survived it; had a few great aunts with it- survived.   My mom has had a few scares herself so I can imagine how you feel.

Fox Chase is great- I have family who went there for treatment for other kinds of cancer.

Funny thing is, my mom is completely fine. She is just talking to me on the phone like it is nothing. Just says she doesn't want to go through this but she has no choice in the matter. She is either being brave for me, or just is thinking positive. She hopes that she does not have to go through radiation but idk if that will happen...  I thought everyone has to do that.  And I think she wants to go to Abington hospital.

I wonder exactly how many knottie vibes I can send through here without it overloading! Sending them....NOW!

I'll be sure to keep your mother, and you/ family in my thoughts and prayers. Early detection is key. My grandmother before she passed, had breast cancer, colon cancer and ovarian cancer - and kicked all their asses - thanks to early detection - and that was YEARS ago!

TCT_ my moms mom had colon cancer too, when she was pretty old and beat it as well.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My own mom is a cancer survivor, so I know how you're feeling. Like PP said, early detection is so so important so it's a good thing they found it. On a side note, my mom did go to Doylestown for her surgeries and oncologist. Our experience was ok, but I think if the cancer came back she would go else where.

KV, T & P to you and your mother, Traci!

ETA:  I had a breast cancer scare myself last December, but thank God, it turned out to be a benign cyst.  Hopefully, since your mother caught it early, she will heal quickly.

My mom's oncologist is at UPENN.   They are the best doctors by far.
