Checky Check Check Check!

We were really struggling finding a pastor and now we have the option of two and begin our pre-marital counseling on the 28th!!!!! The pastor said our classes will be for 6month's every Saturday from 10am-12pm, we weren't expecting if to be for so long but hey we have a CHECK!  Is anyone else going to pre-martial classes?

  • Crap, you just reminded me that I have to look into this! We talked to our church about it and then totally forgot to set it up...oops. I have a feeling it's going to be a months-long type thing, so I bet get on it! The Catholic church is notorious for making you jump through hoops...haha

  • I live in the Philadelphia area and my Parish accepts the pre canna classes that are offered online so FI and I will be signing up for those shortly!  He works on weekends so this really helps us out!
  • FI and I are doing pre-marital counseling with our Catholic priest. We have met with him several times. taken the FOCCUS survey and discussed our results, and we are going on an Engaged Encounter next weekend. All required by the church but SO beneficial. I know a lot of people who feel that this is a waste of time, but our experience was that it gave us so much confidence that we have had the "big talks" we needed to have, and are totally in sync. It's been awesome.

That's so great to hear, I've been really excited to take the classes because I feel it will give us a stronger foundation and a greater communication level.Every relationship can learn more about what it takes to make a marriage work.

  • YAY!!  I'm not sure if we need to do the classes or not.  I still have to call the court house in the town we're getting married in to find out the details!  Our officiant hasn't said anything to us, so we'll see!!  I guess I better get on that!
  • We're getting married by a JP, so we don't need to do it, but I actually think it'd be a good experience.

Oh my gosh, every week sounds a bit intense, but it sounds like you guys have the right attitude about it Smile. We are doing three sessions with our rector, which reminds me... I need to schedule them!

Can you give me more information on the online classes? Is everything in text or will you need to listen to some stuff?

We would like to have something like this (online) because it's quite difficult to find and pay for an interpreter for the counseling- we aren't required to have one, but we would like to do one. We've been using workbooks from the bookstore, but I don't know if that's enough. And not to mention we'd save $100 on our license!

  • Wow, every Saturday from 10-12? That is intense! My pastor is coming down from NY, so our premarital seshs will be via Skype. ha

  • We did ours back in August, we got them done pretty early out because they were a full weekend.  Plus I was in the midst of job searching and I was hoping that we would move before the wedding.

  • My FI and I are doing it.  My pastor is a licensed family and marriage counselor, so as soon as he found out we were engaged, he sat us down and told us that the "only two licenses you can get without any sort of training in Illinois are a fishing license and a marriage license."  He'll be marrying us and giving us 6 months of premarital counseling (once a month until the wedding) free of charge ("I didn't get into the "preachin' business" to get rich off of weddings and funerals.").  I suppose we should set that up since the 6 month mark is this weekend....
