Re: Health and Fitness Check-in Tuesday

  • I'm not doing so good with eating healthy... fries, chocolate, you name it, I've been eating it. I'm hoping to get myself on track starting this week!

Last night was my first night back to the gym in a few weeks, so I'm definiely going to get back into it. I did 20 minutes of cardio and a bunch of ab reps. I tried to do shoulders but one exercise in, I started getting pain in my left shoulder so I had to stop... FI is a trainer and he thinks I have a rotator cuff injury. It was an okay starter workout, but I'm going to hit the gym much harder starting tonight!

I'm hoping to lose 5 lbs before I go dress shopping and then another 5 lbs before the wedding, so about 10 lbs total.

  • I am doing pretty good with eating better not not as good this week as I did last week a lot more lazy eating. I need to get back to the gym but it has been really hard. I just signed up for the Broad St Run so I am hoping that will be the kick in the pants I need to get me in the gym.

  • I have been hitting the gym at least 3-4x per week since late October.  I have lost between 5-10 (flucuating) pounds and I feel great.  I have really built up some muscle, so I figure that's why I am not seeing much weight loss.  I meet with a trainer 1x per week as well.  I was really worried about having to wear SPANX the day of the wedding, and after my first dress fitting I am stoked to say that I can wear regular undies!! YAY me!!  As long as I can keep that up then I will be pleased :))  I do watch what I eat all week and cheat on the weekends. I also have cut beer out of my diet since 1/1/12.  :)

That's great! I cut alcohol out of my diet too, that's about how much I am hoping to lose as well.

  • I eat pretty well in general, but my downfall is the gym. I'm too busy at work to get to the gym and I am too lazy to wake up in the morning when I've been at work past midnight. :( I really need to just make a plan and stick with it, regardless of work.

What are your favorite workouts? I am sick of elliptical, but I can't do high-impact stuff because of severe chronic tendonitis. I haven't been able to make the yoga classes I love because of the timing of the classes. They are either 6am (not going to happen) or 6pm (I'm still at work and can't leave).

I do the push/pull theory...for every push there is a pull.  For example, Bicep curls (pull), kick backs push (I use 10lb weights). Lunges are good too or give the equipment a try at the gym.  I like it and it gives me something to do other than cardio:)

Have you tried any of the barre based classes?  They're typically not high impact, are fun, and effective.  If you live in Philly, I go to the Lithe Method and love it.  I'm also going to try Pure Barre within the next week...a friend of mine loves it there, too.

  • Lauren - I've tried something similar(I live in NYC) called Figure 4. I may start it up again soon. You're right - it was totally manageable with my tendonitis, I just didn't feel "zen" when I left (which is something that I valued back then because I was more focused on yoga). I believe they have barre classes at my gym. Great idea.

Also, I noticed on a previous thread that you had pictures of St. John the Evangelist? I couldn't find ANY online when I was trying to show pictures to my planner who was unfamiliar with the church. If you have any, please let me know if you'd be willing to send along!

  • Bridetobe - I didn't realize you were in NYC, that's great.  I went to college up there but came back to Philly afterward for law school.  Physique 57 is also supposed to be a good barre place, and Lithe is eventually coming to NYC.

Here's a link to photos my fiance found of a wedding at St. Johns: http://www.faithwest.com/slides/foy/(the church photos start at slide 53).

  • Oh, great! Thanks so much. And that's too funny - I went to law school in NYC! :)

I used to go to Pure Yoga and now go to the Equinox on 63rd and they have something called "Barre Burn" -- if it ends up scking, perhaps I'll look into the others at a different location.

No way!  When do you usually go??  I used to go to 6ams religiously, but had to change my routine when I moved out of the city.  I'm trying to get back into a Lithe groove now that I'm done with my marathon training.  I really need some Higher Power and/or Super Fly to make sure nothing rolls over the top of my strapless dress!

  • I just ate wings and onion rings for dinner, so I feel like shiiiit. I'm good about what I eat for breakfast & lunch, but dinner is my downfall. I also haven't worked out in a few days. I'm a runner, but ever since the weather turned cold (I only run in the morning before work), I use a stationary bike. I also started doing Ab Ripper X a few days ago.

  • This week was a bad week for me, but I am back on track today.
I am trying to eat 4 small meals and getting to the gym only 1 or 2 times as I just started and gradually adding more time and days.
