Several of our friends got married before us and the ONE thing they advised us was to do was to hire a day of coordinator. No matter how organized you are (and I'm a very organized person!), there will things that won't go your way and you will need someone there to help keep things in line. After all, your wedding day comprises of a million little pieces all coming together in ONE day!
Through the knot and the ladies here that have gotten married in the past, Mary from Mary Rose Memories came highly recommended! So I went ahead and booked her probably a year or more in advance of the wedding. Although she was a Day of Coordinator (DOC), she answered all of my questions throughout the wedding process via email or phone. As I previously mentioned, I had a lot of DIY projects and needed someone to help me set them up and then break them down at the end of the night so that I wouldn't have to worry about a thing. I was able to enjoy spending time with my bridal party and mom getting ready that morning instead of having to set up the venue myself. I was also able to just enjoy the night and hang out with my friends at the after party without having to worry about breaking down my centerpieces and packing it all up. In fact, Mary still has them and has told me to take my time with picking them up!
I truly believe that Mary went above and beyond the typical DOC offerings. She came with me to my menu appointment meeting at Tendenza a month before the wedding. She also came with me to the final drop off appointment three days before the wedding and finally attended the ceremony rehearsal to get to know everyone, lined up the procession, and ensured that the rehearsal went quickly and smoothly. Finally on the actual day of the wedding, Mary even brought an assistant, Jennifer to help with everything. She took care of the things that I or my FI forgot to do and was there for me and the wedding party from early morning until the end of the reception when she packed up all of my DIY centerpieces.
Having her as my DOC was seriously priceless to us. My FI and I both felt like we really didn't pay her close to the work that she put in! So, if you are ever on the fence about hiring a DOC (even if you don't have alot of DIY projects to set up), I would recommend that you get one! And I would recommend that you go with Mary!
