During this whole wedding process it has made me see who are my acquaintances and who are my friends that i made for life.

Anyone else encounter this?

I have definitely experienced this.  Sometimes I feel like people think just because I am planning a wedding that automatically makes me a bridezilla, when in reality, I've been fairly laid back.  FI experienced this too because when he proposed, some of his friends just dropped him.  I was really sad for me to see something like that.

absolutely. And to be honest, it kind of sucked realizing who really is a good friend and who could really care less about you. But I'm happy that the wedding brought this to light.

I'm sorry that you guys have been going through this!  It's terrible to know that some people who were really close to you are not being as supportive as they could.

I know that some of my friends are not wedding people so I don't talk about it a lot with them but now that it is getting closer, I worry that this will start to happen to me too.

yes, this is totally, 100% true! I realized that some of my friends really, truly, are going to lifelong family, while others really don't care.  Sad, but happy at the same time, because it made me realize how incredible some people are - and that those people who don't care, really don't matter.

Overall my experience has been eye opening but for the opposite reason. I only have one person (sadly a faded BM) that let me down but I have a handful of new friends that have gone above and beyond anything I would ever expect. The good far out weights the bad in my case.

Oh gosh yes... I have realized that I need a whole new crop of friends. I feel like my bridesmaids, who are supposedly my best friends, could care less about me. I feel like if this were their wedding I would be doing everything I could to make it easier on them and to give them a wonderful time. I would do my research on bridal showers and day-of schedules and bachelorette parties if I didn't know what my responsibilities were. They act like they are so busy to do anything and can't take any time off of work.

Except they ALL have no problem asking off work for their boyfriends! I am so disappointed by them I don't even know where to start. Whereas I am doing EVERYTHING myself while having a full time job during the week and trying to work out every weekend to fit in my dress and planning every little aspect of this wedding. And they complain because they don't know how to plan a bachelorette party. "Where can I find cheap invitations? What hotels can we stay at? I don't even know what to do so you need to plan everything...How are we going to pay for this? Do we HAVE to do lingerie? I don't have the time..." UGH. I hate listening to them complain when they have nothing to complain about.

yes, 100%...even before we got engaged...FI & I moved to FL in May '10...he proposed in March '11...between that time frame we found out who our true friends and family are...def. yes...

Definitely. The more shocking realizations for me have been with family. After the wedding, I don't think I will have any interest in seeing one of my Mom's sisters and her daughters (one is a BM) for a looong time.
