judge or JoP in reading/philly

i am trying to decide on an officiant for our wedding. i am an aetheist so would really prefer not having god and such in my ceremony. I am trying to figure out how to get a JoP or Judge to do my ceremony and who to get but its a little difficult to find that kind of information online. anyone out the in the Reading/ Philly PA area done this and have suggestions?

Re: judge or JoP in reading/philly

  • We're actually having a judge signing our marriage license, since we're both not religious either... ours is located in Abington/Glenside area... I found her after calling like 6 different other judges... you would need to go to your court house, apply and pay for a marriage license, then they will give you a list of judges in the area, who could be willing to do your ceremony, then call them up and see if they are available... btw: each judge have their own fee too - i've found out during my research... so you have to pay for the marriage license, then pay the judge their own fee.

  • Do a self uniting license, which is a Quaker marriage license.  You basically marry yourself with your guests as witnesses.  You write everything yourselves or get it online.  You can have a friend act as MC.

We're being married by a Judge as well. FI is a cop though, so he's doing it at as favor. You can find non-demoninational officiants pretty easy though. I had found a few I was going to call on TK and from craigslist before FI told me about the Judge.

  • My officiant is non-denominational, but she's based in Bucks County so I'm not sure if that helps you. I don't know what her travel fees are, if any.
