I'm Back Ladies! Reviews Included.

Back to reality it is and it's good to be back.  Our wedding was wonderful but it rained that Saturday afternoon which means that we didn't get to have our pictures taked at Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse as planned.  The honeymoon was awesome but we didn't think we'd ever get there or get home...lol.  So here's a recap of the vendors and some reviews.

Venue - NC Aquarium.  Beth and Cheryl were amazing to work with.  They were so nice and answered every question I had.  I would definitely recommend the Aquarium.

Caterer - Red Sky Cafe.  The food was awesome especially the rice and mac n cheese.  The chicken was either overcooked or they marinated it too long but was still good.  Everyone talked about how great the shrimp and vegetable skewers were.  The waitress that we had was great.  She cleaned the tables and had everything ready on time.

Bartender - Tom Thumbs Cookouts.  She did a great job and was really cute.  So cute that my brother gave her a $40 tip for one beer...lol.  I would highly recommend them.  She was tentative and gave everyone exactly what they wanted.

Cake - Linda Bradley.  I LOVED the cake.  It was so cute and I hated to cut it.  However, it was just your run of the mill cake but still tasty.

Photography - Michele Denotter.  I really loved working with her.  She was so nice and right there whenever something happened.  I don't know how many pictures she took but she was there from 9am-4pm.  I don't have the proofs yet but I should have them by the end of the week and can't wait to see them.

Florist - I Do Florals.  The flowers were awesome and exactly how I imagined.  She was great to work with and and helped me plan within my budget.

All in all, things turned out perfect.  Hope you ladies have been doing well.  Have I missed anything?

    Welcome back Mrs!!
So glad to hear how everything went. Can't wait to see the pics :)
Sounds like you had a great group of vendors and no problems really. You didn't miss a whole lot here, all of us still planning away and worrying about the weather lol. Congrats again and so glad you're back!

So good to be back and thanks.  I'll post pics as soon as I get them.  I can't wait to see how they turned out.  The weather is unpredictable out there, especially this time of year.  I'll definitely pray for good weather for everyone.  Oh and I forgot a vendor...

Officiant - Rev Rande Banks.  He was ok, really nice but he didn't show up until 3 MINUTES before the ceremony was supposed to start.  Noone told me until after the ceremony so I wouldn't panic and go apeshit on him.  He said that traffic was bad but who knows.

holy crap (about the officiant) my mom keeps telling me I will be completely & blissfully in the dark about all the set-up lol.

    WELCOME BACK, MRS!

I wanna know how that part feels- do you guys "feel any different"?!  (I personally hate that question, b/c usually the answer is 'no', but I have to ask!!)

Give us the "just married" thoughts and scoop :-)

Honestly, it doesn't feel any different b/c we've lived together for the past year and a half so there isn't an adjustment to living together.  It does feel awesome though to know that there's always someone there that you can count on and will always be there no matter what.

As for the set-up, my mom and I did EVERYTHING from the table linens to the centerpieces to the favors and deciding where all of the tables and chairs would go.  It was quite stressful but was really fun and I love the fact that I can say I planned and set up my whole wedding.  We were setting up everything Friday night and Saturday morning at 9am.

I wouldn't change a thing about the wedding but I can honestly say that I'll never get married again and don't want to plan anymore weddings.  I'm not cut out for it...lol.

    Congrats MRS!!!!

We have a tasting at Red Sky scheduled for Sept 5th, and also are thinking of doing a Beach Ball Events package with Mallards Marsh.  Linda Bradley does the cakes, and we actually meet with her on Monday the 5th as well. :-)

    Congrats again!

Philly - I originally wanted to go with Beach Ball Events.  I love the idea of a one stop shop but it was a little out of our price range.  Linda's cakes are beautiful and perhaps ours would have been better if I had gotten a filling.  I've never met a cake I didn't like though.  I still highly recommend her.  She's so easy to work with and very prompt on getting back to your calls and emails and she's super nice.

Again, Red Sky is awesome.  Eric was really helpful and was able to work within our budget and our food was great.  If you like Mac n Cheese, I'd put that on the menu...I can't describe how good it was along with the Caribbean rice.  They were by far my favorite.  I heard rave reviews about the smoky shrimp and vegetable skewers but I didn't try them seeing as how I don't eat either one.

Good luck with your tastings - I know you'll enjoy both of them!

Rebecca - do you like the "one stop shop" idea?  That's what me and FI are going back and forth with.  Getting locked into their vendors vs. making the "day our own".  I think the only really "hang up" I would have is the photography.  FI isn't as concerned with it, but i'm overly concerned with only getting 2.5 hours, coverage, etc.  We want the dvd and rights to our pix, and I think Linda said that it's $500.

So basically if you would have had bigger budget, would you have done Mallards Marsh?  Or did you have other "one stop shop" places you looked at?

I like the idea of the one stop shop and would've gone with it for the ease of it b/c it's so much less stress then having to plan it yourself.  I checked on Beach Ball Events and 11th Hour Events but liked Beach Ball better...they just seemed nicer.

After planning it ourselves I'm kind of glad that I didn't go that route.  We were able to make it our own and put our spin on it without someone having to say that we have to this centerpiece or that menu or this DJ or officiant.

It's much more stress planning it yourself but I think it's worth it.  You can look back and say that it was your vision and you made it happen.  I also think that you'll be able to save money by planning it yourself and picking your own vendors.
