Private Home Wedding

I haven't researched anything besides houses that I like for our wedding if we were to hold our wedding/reception at a private house, but my mind has been racing racing racing with the thought of renting chairs, tables, dance floor, etc.Has anyone that is doing a private home wedding gotten a ballpark figure as to how much these types of weddings end up being?TIA.

We are doing a private home wedding.  It's often used for "events' so there are some perks to it (it comes with table and chairs for 50).  We were worried about the cost being outragous, but it depends on what you want.  We are going to rent a tent and dance floor and other tables and more chairs, so our rental costs alone will be about 2K.  However, I've seen pictures and talked with other brides who didn't get a tent, didn't get a dance floor and didn't need many chairs or tables.  So really it depends on what you want.We are inviting about 120 people to our wedding, and we are thinking between 50-70 people.  Our budget is 10K.  Just so you have an idea.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

I am also doing a private home wedding.  We're actually not renting an event home, which is kind of frowned upon so shhhh!  As far as tables and chairs and things like that go, we are using a caterer (Costal Provisions Market) who provides the tables and chairs in addition to the food which ended up being more cost effective.  Our budget is more like 7-8K, however, we are only expecting about 50 guests.  I hope that helps!Kate

Cristina, Do you know if the "special event" homes are labeled "special event" because they do supply tables and chairs??  I never even thought to ask the realtor's this.  Blonde moment!!!If so, this may have totally swayed my decision!!!!

Kate, So far are you happy with the caterer choice?  Have they been easy to get ahold of and quick to reply? Also, do they supply plates and glasses and silverware? Thanks girls so much for your help already!! :)

Hi!   I'm not having a rental home wedding but still have to rent chairs, tables, etc... I also have to have a tent since mine is at the Whalehead Club. But for tent, chairs, tables, dance floor, linens, lights, sides for the tent, etc... was about $2500.   that didn't include plates and silverware Black Peligan is renting that for me.  metro and OA gave me about the same price, but metro had better linen selection.  I'm also going to check with distenctive rentals out of cheaspeake, Va.

The issue of "Event homes" can be tricky.  Some realtors/realty companies do not have "event homes", and they do not allow homes to be used for "events".  However, it is very commong for people to just not disclose that they are renting the house for the purposes of an event.  In my case, my house is an advertised event home, and there is also a non-refundable, 1 time fee of 1K on top of the weekly rental and security deposit to use the home for an event.   It's a bonus that our house comes with tables and chairs.  Some event homes do not. Now..what classify's something as an event home..it could be the way the house is laid out, that there are two kitchens, a giant open space etc.  But there are plenty of houses that arn't classified as event homes that would work just well and without the 1k fee.  HTH!

Hi Drcamilleri,We would also like to have a private "event house" wedding.  I am really discouraged though, one of the houses that I was really interested in, which was not booked for my week next year as of Tuesday, was booked when I logged onto the Twiddy website today.   We had even scheduled a trip to go down and view that house along with a couple of others the last weekend in September. We had decided not to put an "advanced hold" on any of the houses, without looking at them first.  While they are beautiful online, I have heard that the ones we are interested in do not have a lot of room around the pool area for a band to set up or a dance floor.  Where have you been looking?  We want to get married in Corolla.  If an event house doesn't work out, we may consider the Whalehead Club.

streessmess... that is so devastating.  we haven't booked anything yet and are still undecided on which house we want to use (i have some questions to straighten out with the realtors) or if we shouldn't just do it at an actual venue.  i really love the house idea, but i need some questions cleared up first. i have our STDs created with our "hopeful" date, but now that I have read your experience, i really can no longer just keep hoping our date stays available. i haven't looked at any houses in person since we had to cancel our vacation to the OBX in August at the last minute, so on that note i'm discouraged myself!  it's like what to do, what to do?!! i'm not much help right now, but i will keep you posted on my trials and tribualations.  oh and to answer your question, we have strictly been "looking" at homes in Corolla and Duck.

Donna, I have to say that Costal Provisions Market is not actually extremely easy to get ahold of nor are they extremely punctual about getting back to you.  That said, aside from the fact that it was way easier/more cost effective to use them for catering as well as rentals, but when we tasted their food, my fiance basically fell in love.  Also, they will include dishes, silverware, etc.  Hope that helps! I am using an event rental house and had to sign a contract saying I wouldn't have more than 50 people in attendance (which is fine w/ me as I'm having about 40 guests). I've been told that if they catch you having an event at a non-event house or that you didn't disclose this information so you wouldn't have to pay the event fee, they can evict you immediately. I didn't want to take that chance. I looked into having the wedding at a facility like Whale Head Club but I figured if I'm going to spend that much cash, I might as well have a beach house I can stay at (along w/ my friends/family) for a week! I'm getting married in less than 5 weeks, and am using Kelly's Restaurant for my catering. They came highly recommended by a friend of mine who lives on the OBX and have been nice to work with so far. Good luck!

UGGG a lot so far, I live on the Outer Banks, we are doing ours at a private home on the Soundfront. We are renting tables, chairs, linens for the tables, a dance floor, all the utensils, cups (martini, beer, wine, water) all the dishes, oh just everything. We are having 120 max.Right now the total for rentals for the above is running around 1000, and i did the basic stuff. I suggest you call Metro rentals and Ocean Atlantic rentals both in Kill Devil Hills for pricing. Oh and don't forget the parking, we are renting a shuttle to get people back and forth. So much to think about and do, but hopefully it will all come together !!! Good luck to you :)
