Beach House Weddings

This is probably a very common question on the site, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Are there any houses/locations that you can have a beach reception or at least a venue that you could have toes in the sand reception?

Thank you!!!

Unfortunately, you cannot have a reception on the beach for various reasons.  There are 3, maybe 4, places that I can think of that you can be as close to the beach as possible:

Hilton Garden Inn Pier House in Kitty Hawk, MP 2 or 3
Jeannette's Pier, Nags Head, MP 16 (across from Sam & Omie's)
The Village Beach Club, Nags Head, MP 14 or 15 (no glass at all, more stipulations)
The Pearl at The Sea Ranch Motel, Kitty Hawk---there have been some Knotties that had major problems with this place, so unless it's under completely new and trustworthy management, I would steer clear.

There is also the option of having an event home that is oceanfront, but again, having a reception right on the beach won't happen in the OBX--too many laws, private land, etc.

If you could give us an idea of what your "vision" is and about how many people, I am sure we can help you find something.  Have you looked into the OBX Wedding Assoc?  I think I mentioned them in your other post below.

Thanks so much! I tried responding to my other post and it wouldn't let me.So thanks for responding to that also. I'm thinking our wedding will be very small, 25 to 50 people. Definitely thinking an oceanfront ceremony and maybe an outdoor reception. A few places I have talked to and am going to tour on our vacation is: The Currituck Club, The Sanderling and plan to check out a few event homes. Maybe even check out some Soundfront properties for the sunset factor. Would like to keep costs as low as possible. I'm worried about such a small wedding, certain venues being way too huge for us, so if you have any ideas for smaller type venues, that would be great! Do you know if Argyles does smaller weddings onsite? Thanks so much and I definitely look forward to talking to you gis more along the journey :

I was going to post that OBX forgot the Sanderling! We got married there on Sept. 7, 2012. We were under the elopement package. We originally invited about 35 guests, 25 showed up. We had our ceremony on the beach, and our reception at what was the Life Saving Station. I'm not sure if they are still doing the fall/winter elopement package there, or if the location changed. Everything was perfect, Jess was awesome to work with! I'm happy to talk about the Sanderling further.

We had the same concerns with size as well, Jennette's Pier was one of our top choices until we saw how large the space was, and how small 4 tables would look there! Not sure if the Pier House would be the same.. also could do a beach house as well!

  • We are definitely meeting with The Sanderling. They seem very accommodating. Has anyone dealt with Argyles? If so, any feedback? Hopefully come August, we will have a date set and venue picked. Fingers crossed!!

  • We're using Argyle's for our reception, and so far Debra has been awesome to work with.  She really knows what she's doing, and her food is delicious.  I was recently stressing about the logistics of setting up everything in our event home, but one email from her put me at ease.  She does do onsite catering, and I don't see why she wouldn't for a smaller wedding.  Our wedding isn't going to be much larger-we told her approximately 60 guests.

Also, if you book a rehearsal dinner with her in addition to the reception, she throws in a wedding cake for free (also delicious).  You can have each layer a different flavor with a different filling and decorated however you'd like.

Have you been able to make it down for a tasting with her?
  • Thanks for the info Ashley. We have not met in person with her yet. We are currently emailing back and forth to figure out all of our options. I'm currently waiting to hear back from her about a beach house event should we decide to go that route. Which beach house are you using? When I get back to my computer, I will post an intro post. I think I will be sticking around for awhile!!!! Haha!

  • Just a warning for when you meet her in person:  she's a talker.  I mean, we heard all about why she decided to just do catering and close her restaurant, how she walked in one day and fired her whole staff, her mother's funeral, what cooking is like in NY...just be prepared :)  But she does totally know what she's doing, so I feel like we're in good hands.

She's catering for us at Wild Horse, an event home in the 4x4 area of Carova.  If you need any other info on Argyle's or event home weddings, feel free to let me know!

Thanks for adding that one Kel--I did miss that and shame on me!  It's one of the prettiest venues down there and I know of 2 people that had a really really gorgeous wedding there ;)
