Max time b/w ceremony & reception?

What is the maximum amount of time you can have between the ceremony and reception?

Here the situation:
1 hr ceremony
30 min to dismiss from pews

45 min for church pics

20-25 min drive time from church to venue

Photographer need at least an 1 hour and 15 min at a location on the way for pics
We need to be at the venue at 6pm.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Ceremony time is flexible.  The cocktail hour starts at 5:30.  It is at the hotel that some guests are staying at and there is a tavern there too.  Along the way to the venue are a bunch of quaint shops.

I'd say hour/ hour and half max wait time for your guests.

Can you start cocktail hour at earlier for your guests while you are at your chosen photographs location

I have been to a few weddings where the Mass started at 2 and the cocktail hour was at 6... it never seemed to be a problem! I think anything more than that would be too much though.

I am doing a 2:30 ceremony that will last 1 hour located about 30 mins outside the city. Cocktail hour begins at 6:00 in the city. If I have to miss some of cocktail hour for pictures then that is how it will be.

By the way, I see you are getting married in 3 weeks. Haven't you already sent out invites with the ceremony time on it?

I'm having the same dliemma. Our reception is outside of the city - cocktails start at 5:30. We were looking at churches nearby to be convnenient for guests but the ceremony would begin at 1:30, last an hr. Travel time was only 10 minutes... So I felt like it left too much time. We're looking into maybe a Center City ceremony (30 min drive) to kill time.

Either way, your guests will find something to do. Offer some cute places (like the shops) for them to stop by, suggest a place for the drink - or even mention they can go to the hotel early, check-in, freshen up...

Yeah, my reception venue is about an hour away- we're planning on starting the reception at either 5 or 6. Since the wedding is in December and the sun sets around 4.30, we wanted to have the ceremony around 3.30. We figure, 35-45 minute ceremony, then an hour or so for pictures, and then we'll drive down to the reception site.
