Who should pay for hair????

I am having a destination wedding at the Outer Banks.  My question is: Should the bridesmaids pay for getting their hair done?  I am not requiring that they go to someone so they could definitely do it themselves.  I've read at other places that I should since it is out of town.  I have already paid half of each of their bridesmaid dresses.  Any advice?

I would say that, unfortunately, you should probably pay.  Although you were kind enough to already pay for half of their dresses, they are traveling (whether by car, plane, etc) and paying to stay there (probably for an extended period of time), so I would say yes, but that is just my opinion.  Maybe bring up the topic casually and see if you can tell if they are expecting you to pay?  Are any of them particularly good at that sort of thing and you can try to talk it up about tham hanging out before, doing their hair, etc?? 

My fiancee and I decided not to have a bridal party for this reason exactly... I didn't want to make them pay for all of the additional expenses of being in the bridal party, and we didn't want to foot the bill.  That being said, I'm probably not the best person to give advice on this... hope it helps though!

I told my bridesmaids it was up to them if they wanted to get their hair/makeup done and implied that they would be responsible for the cost by them by letting them know the price range from the salons I've looked at...  

We are paying for their accommodations for the week in the rental house for them and their significant others, so we're not paying for anything else--hopefully it's a fair trade.    

Also, for the two weddings I've been part of in the past, the bride never paid for dress, hair, etc -- even if I traveled.  Generally, the bride purchases some type of gift and provides a bridesmaid lunch or something similar...   Granted, I'm not working from a huge sample size

(This might be a good question for the etiquette forum too -- you'll probably get a "best" consensus response over there)

If you are requiring that they get their hair & make-up done, then YOU should pay.

If you are leaving the option open to them, then THEY pay for their own.



I left it up to my girls and they are completely ok with this

Thanks so much for the feedback.  I am buying their jewlery and of course gifts for being my bridesmaids.  I think that I will tip on the total services so that my bridesmaids only have to pay the actual cost.  That at least helps them out a little.  Thanks again!

On a side note: HStafford we are getting married on the same day!!  Where are you getting married?

Really??  That's great - 40 days now!!!  I am getting married at the Grand Bahamian in Pine Island... how about you??

I know! It is definitely fast approaching..maybe too fast, LOL!!  We are getting married on the beach in Kitty Hawk and the reception is at the Kitty Hawk Pier House.  Pine Island looks like a beautiful location!  Hope your wedding planning is going well so far!
