is it normal to....

have second thoughts about your dress?? as soon as i put my dress on, i KNEW it was the one for me....but now that i keep looking at pictures of it online, i worry about whether i picked the right one/whether all my guests and friends will think it is pretty or weird/etc.....

Re: is it normal to....

  • Yep... right there with you....

I'm trying to put it out of my mind until the first fitting.  I haven't seen the dress on me in my size yet, so that has a lot to do with it.

  • I would say this is common. I've seen other ladies around TK feel the same way!

Not for me though, probably because I can't even imagine going back and looking for a dress again. That was a lot of work!! I don't like shopping :)

  • It's probably because you're looking at it on someone else. I've kind of felt the same way when looking at it online...then I go find the (somewhat crappy) phone picture of me in it, and I remember why I loved it...and it wasn't even a perfect fit yet.

On a completely different note, I had a crazy WR dream last night that I ended up in a bright pink ugly dress LOL So when I woke up, I felt even more relieved I bought the dress I did!

  • Totally normal! There are so many gorgeous gowns out there, but you picked yours for a reason! Think about it like you do your fiance :)

  • ps - what's your dress!?!?! Are you sharing? I didn't want to tell anyone for a while but then I couldn't NOT tell people so now almost everyone has seen it!

Haha me too! I was even paranoid to post a pic of it on here at first. I was worried my FI would stumble across it somehow. But then I calmed down and realized that's pretty far fetched, so now I post it anytime someone starts a dress thread, and all my BMs and close friends have seen pics, too.

Isn't it funny?! I can't believe how secretive I was about it at the beginning...my maid of honor, mother  and grandmother were the only ones who had seen it, and then all of a sudden, EVERYONE has seen it! But only those three have seen it on me, at least. :)

  • I think its totally normal. I did the same thing for so long. I picked out and ordered my dress back in April of 2011 and then I kept second guessing it. I loved the way the dress looked on me, but I didn't like it at all seeing it online on the model! So I was very relieved when it came in and I loved it all over again. I also had to stop myself from looking at other dresses online because it made me second guess myself even more.

  • thanks for the feedback, ladies!!! you are all right, i chose the dress for a reason and loved the way it looked on me....plus, my seamstress is an absolute WHIZ and is adding on a one-shoulder floral strap for me, and converting the bustline to a sweetheart top so it will be a little "softer".

the one thing my fiance said to me before i went dress shopping was "i really like it when you wear things that only have one shoulder strap on them." so i had to go with that, of course ;)

here is my dress that i am so nervous about!!

    back:

i have been so secretive about it so far that the only people who have seen it are my parents and my MOH!
  • Yes, pretty normal (well for me!).  Try not to look at it online any more!
  • I LOVE YOUR DRESS!!! Thank you for sharing!

(My fiance said he doesn't like strapless dresses. Too bad :) )

    It's gorgeous!!!

In the shop, there were two dresses that I really liked, and I can't forget about the other one. And sometimes I think about the kind of dress I wanted, and that I didn't pick. My dress has massive layers of tulle, and I wanted to keep the whole wedding pretty informal and down-to-earth. But now I feel it has suddenly become a way more formal deal, all because of this dress. And I hate the picture on the site. So, I just took another look at the picture we took in the shop, and that one is gorgeous!

And I never understood those ladies here with second thoughts :)

  • I was doing the same thing, and then I finally put my dress back on... and knew I had made the right choice.

  • It's beautiful!  And yes, it's normal.  I hate the pictures of my dresses in magazines and whatnot, but love it when it's on me!

  • Yep! I think 99% of brides go through second thoughts about their dress.

  • Are you kidding?! Your dress is beautiful! I looove it!

It is normal to second guess from time to time, but don't let it take over you. Remember why you chose it and everything will be fine. :)
  • thank you ladies for making me feel better and more normal :) i think part of my problem was also that i tried on my dress as part of a trunk show of dresses that came right off of the runway....the dress that i tried on was a size 6.....although i am a 6 in real life, i am nowhere near a 6 in wedding dress world, and it was SO TIGHT and the corset didn't close all the way! so hopefully seeing it with my alterations and in my size will be a different story :)
