Hurricane and Horses

I'm just curious... where do all of the horses in the 4X4 area go during a hurricane?

From what I've heard, they go into the wooded areas and higher elevations!!! Hope everyone will be okay, including all the wildlife.

Sorry about the goofy link.  I fixed it.

The 4x4 area is Carova where the wild horses live.  You can only travel in that area by 4x4 vehicles.

Hopefully you can get past Duck.  They should be letting visitors into Duck tomorrow at 2pm.  12 has been undermined at the Sunset Grill.  I think the last I heard they are still not allowing traffic up north.  Anyone planning on visiting this week: be sure to check with your rental company.  A lot of the houses haven't been cleaned yet as the cleaners were not able to get in on Saturday.

I have been following on twiddy.com and getting updates from them as much as possible. They are going to be starting to post houses today as they get through it so I will keep watching for ours. According to twiddy they will let people past starting at 10am tomorrow once they get rt12 figure out by the Sunset Grille. We are keeping our fingers crossed we can get through...we have big trucks so we will drive over debris if they let us, we did it last year after Earl!! haha :)

They've cleared the debris (trees, boulders and boats) in Duck so it is passable now.  I originally heard 10am, then I heard 2pm.  Also, make sure you have power.  Lots of people in Corolla still without power.  Check this site for updates.

From Carolyn Mason, Shackleford Foundation:"Census of the central part of the island began on August 31st, and by days 'end 86% of the horse population had been accounted for. Now, searching will be for individual horses, and groups of 2 or 3, who may have chosen to hide out-of-sight in the maritime forest and in high-dune swales." Cedar Island lost one aged mare. All other horses are accounted for.
