North Carolina-Outer Banks

Twiddy, Carolina Designs, Sun Realty, oh my!

I know I just asked this question over on the FB page, but just wanted to post it here to to get some more feedback. Our honeymoon is just going to be at the OBX. We plan on renting for the week. Usually when we go down, we use Southern Shores realty. For us, we've had excellent service from them in the past. However, we rentend from another company before, but I can't remember the name of the company. The place was FILTHY and smelled like nasty booty. Who are you all renting from? Is there a company you've had a bad experience with? Do you prefer beach side/soundside, etc? Details, details :) The house we usually want in Duck is already booked the week of our wedding  Cry

I'm no help, I've rented four houses this year through three organizations.
Twiddy- Candice is very helpful in Duck office
Karichele- where we found some "affordable" options with Ginger helping
Shoreline- miss Laura is so nice!

    Best of luck!

We have always rented through Twiddy and the only year we ever had a problem was last year. We rent on the 4x4 beachs and Hurricane Earl must have made problems more severe because our house was literally covered in bugs and mold on the oceanside. I called several times and it took me literally threatening them to get someone out there. I am really not a confrontrational person but we paid thousands to rent a home with a deck that we could not even walk on, or open the windows on that side. It was bad. Our water also smelled of sulfer, badly. Twiddy told us thats just what happens on the 4x4 sections-but we have never had that problem before!

Other than that we have never had any trouble at all!

Our son lives in the 4x4 area and I can assure you that the problem is NOT "just what happens".  All of these houses have EXTREME water filtration systems because all of them have wells that are punched beneath the sand and bogs.  If these systems are not maintained, replenished and filters changed frequently, you get smelly nasty water.  They have to add chemicals to the system.  So, if you have this problem again, tell them to send someone to fix the water treatment system.  I have heard within the last year that Twiddy has gotten a little slack on their maintenance in the 4x4 area and this is from someone who cleans and inspects for them.

Boderboo- That is what I was wondering... I went so far as to write to Twiddy and havent heard a peep back from them. It really took a few days away from our trip because of the deck and the the fact that the entire oceanside of the house was inaccessable. I had taken pictures on my phone to make sure I documented everything. I really have enjoyed renting from Twiddy but that put a bad taste in our mouths. Because we have only ever rented through them, I do not really know of other companies that rent on the 4x4 beaches that rent large homes!
