Completely Overwhelemed

I am brand spankin' new to all of this. I feel so overwhelmed I could cry my eyes out. Cry

I'm looking to have a wedding at the OBX late next June for a group of 80. The budget is EXTREMELY tight. I'm trying to decide between a reception site or getting an event home. Penny for your thoughts?

A friend of mine recently mentioned that Port O Call has a site for receptions. My family goes down to the OBX once every few years, and I can't seem to remember this place. Does anyone know anything about it? Is there a place to have a ceremony there? Anyone, Anyone, Bueller? Bueller?

I'll take all the help I can get here gals. Thanks so much!

My thought for a group of 80 would be a restaurant.  I know Tale of the Whale does weddings up to 90 people (according to their website).  Their food is delish and it is such a gorgeous location, especially at sunset.  Also check out Pamilco jack's.  I believe they do weddings too.

Port O Call is on the beach road.  I've never actually been there.

My thoughts on a house with a tight budget - you have to take into account renting tables, chairs, linens, glassware, etc.  And catering costs.  It can add up.  I'd check out metro rentals to get an idea of the costs.

Good luck!  I too am on a strict budget!

I agree about staying away from a rental house if you're worried about the budget.  All of the rentals and fees add up so quickly, at least from what we looked at for what we wanted.

The Pearl could hold your guests and the bonus to your budget there is that tables, chairs, dinnerware, and tablecloths are included.  You just pay to rent the room (which covers set up costs) and if you want to add chair covers/sashes.  The food is reasonably priced and they'll work with you to customize.

I haven't been to the other restaurants mentioned, so I'm no help there.  Stick around, we'll help you out!  We've all been there in that "OMG where do I start?!" phase. =)

I agree with Teach!!  It is overwhelming at first but once you make your initial choices it becomes really fun!!  I am three months out and am having so much fun planning all the details.  Keep checking this board!  It has been tons of help and the ladies here provide so many great ideas!

I have only been to the Port O Call bar- once for a band and once for the bachelorette party. The restaraunt looks really nice, but I can't attest to the food.
I do know that the staff in the bar was great and the bar area is pretty cool.
It seems like a big money saver is to have the wedding in late May or early Sept in the off season, if your date is flexible. From what I have heard everything is cheaper (even groceries- we were there the week before memorial day and on the last Fri we went to buy watermelon and the price had gone up $2!)
