Flowers

Hi everyone,

I am trying to put my budget together and I was wondering if anyone knew or had suggestions on an average price for flowers for ceremony and reception.  The ceremony will be on the beach and reception under a tent at event house.  At the most 100 guests.  I do not want really elaborate flowers, just something simple that will add a touch of color.  Does anyone have suggestions?  Thanks!

You will save quite a bit of money if you are willing to do your own flowers!! Just a thought. I don't know how much it is for a florist but I am doing my own and my total is around $200, including supplies.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Where are you getting your flowers from?

Harris Teeter!!! As long as you call ahead(about 6 wks) they can have whatever you need.

I'm using a florist for the bouquets and bouts.  I'm getting 3 bouquets and 3 bouts for $275.00 but I'm doing my own centerpeices.  I am, however, purchasing the flowers that I need from my florist which is 30 loose gerberas for $75.00.  We're using Holly with I Do Florals.  She's great to work with and willing to work within your budget.  I told her what I was will to spend and what colors I wanted and she gave great suggestions and is pretty prompt in getting back to you.

    Hi Kelsey,
We are using SugarSnaps for our flowers. My MIL is insisting on making our centerpieces, but everything else cost about $500. My bouquet is about $275 alone. But I also chose expensive flowers- Purple & white cala lilies, hydrangea, and purple zinnia. I saw the flowers at Harris Teeter that PP mentioned, I agree that they have some really nice options and if you are a DIY kinda bride, it's a great option. I just am not and I knew flowers were one thing I wanted to splurge a little on.

The latest pics are from my daughter's wedding last week. She works out of her home and her work is beautiful.  We got bridal bouquet, 6 bridesmaids, 9 boutineers, 6 moms/grandma's corsages for $420.  We were going to do them ourselves too, but so glad we found her, There is so much to do down there that is one less thing to worry about.

We are using Sugar Snaps.  They are GREAT if you're budget is tight.  We needed a lot of bouquets for a low amount of money and I really didn't want to do them myself.  I am doing A LOT of other things myself.  In order to achieve this, I will carry a 9-10 inch bouquet, rather than a 12 inch, of Orange Gerbera Daisies, Green spider mum's and green hypericum.  We will also have 6 bridesmaid bouquets (only 3 large orange gerberas tied with raffia), 8  boutonnieres, 4 corsages, and one very large center piece that is similar to my bouquet but the vase will be lined with sliced limes.  My colors are orange, lime green, and medium blue.  They are doing this for about $500.  I will also purchase 100 stems of Orange Gerbera Daisies to place randomly around in small vases, etc.  This will be under $100 from Sam's Club.

We are also using Maggi @ Harris Teeter....but she is only doing my bouquet.  FMIL used to do floral arrangements so this was a big plus for me.  I am going to purchase the BM flowers at H. Teeter and she will put together for me.

Anything you can DIY will save a lot of mula in the long run :)

I am also using Harris Teeter:  spider mums and hydrangeas.  They looked beautiful and fresh when I visited, and I'm definitely a DIY type.  A BM used to be a florist, though, so she will pull together the bouquets for me.  Should only be about $200 total.

Thanks Everyone for the great ideas!  I am going to look into some of the places you suggested but most likely will be going to Harris Teeter.  I only want simple center pieces and bouquets so I think I will be able to order flowers and do the rest myself :)

    UPDATE!!!

OK, so I was going to do my flowers through Sams Club and amy sure they would have been beautiful.  As I was placing my order, I realized that I had to order everything in just a little bigger quantities than I really needed.  And I wanted green hypericum berries and freesias and would have to order a pretty large bunch of the berries and couldn't really find the freesias.  So I called Maggi at Harris Teeter to check on picking up the hypericum berries locally instead.  Well, everything was priced so well and I could get them in the exact quantities that I needed, that I placed the entire order with them.  I cut about 80% off of my flower budget, which was already budget conscious.  I will make them all myself still, which is what I wanted to do.  But, I don't have to worry about rehydrating the flowers (especially the hydrangeas) and keeping them cold.  They send you away with the flowers in the buckets.  This is perfect.  She needs 3 weeks notice and they are 24 hours, so you can pick them up whenever you want.  AND, I got my freesias!  She buys them in lots, so you can always add in extra when you pick them up.  This is perfect.

Yes I also went ahead and called HT and talked to Maggi and that is the way I am going as well!  She was very helpful when talking with her.

Maggie did my wedding flowers also and they were beautiful. The prices were way below the local florist!!!! She was awesome to work with and I toally recomend Maggie at the Kitty Hawk Harris Teeter. The Kitty Hawk Harris Teeter I was turned off by the floral guy so I went to Maggie. Give her a call and check out what she has to offer. 252-261-1931
  • DO NOT use Bells & Whistles for your wedding flowers. Dorothy took a $500 deposit from me, ignored me until 3 weeks before my wedding, FINALLY sent me a proposal for flowers that included $3,000 of services we never discussed, told me that I cannot change our contract because it's too close to the wedding, charged me ANOTHER $500 to my credit card without my authorization, and did not do ANY flowers for my wedding. It took 6 weeks after my wedding to get a "refund" and Dorothy only sent me $150.00. This is THE WORST business I have ever dealt wiht, and was an absolute nightmare before my wedding.
