MAJOR change of plans....yikes!

Unfortunately this is somewhat of a sad post :(  As of last week my dad has taken a lay off from his job so, obviously, my fiance and I agreed to pay for the majority of the wedding.  Originally I was planning to get married at marshes lighthouse in manteo with a reception at 108 Budleigh.  Thank God I had only put the deposit down on the photographer and Bonnie at Budleigh was so understanding for me having to cancel.  Our orinigal budget was in the 10,000- 12,000 range but now that we are paying for most of it we would like to keep it under 5,000. I know, crazy right?  But I am bound and determined to have my OBX wedding and that is what i'm gonna get!!! So my dad has a lot of pride and I know he's still going to try to pay for some stuff with the wedding but my fi and I decided that to eliminate my dad feeling bad for not being able to help we are going to drastically back.  We were originally planning for 50-60 guests and now we are going to try to keep it under 30, mostly family and very close friends. My very gracious FMIL offered to take everyone out to a restaurant after the ceremony and foot the bill, she is such a giving person.  What do you think the best way to do this would be?  Find a restaurant with a private room we can reserve?  Any good suggestions near the Manteo/ Nags Head area?  Then we plan on renting a beach house, since my fi and I will be honeymooning there all week, to have a "after party" reception that night.  Honestly I think this will be just as special as before, and hopefully we can do this on our budget.  Any good suggestions for a beach house in the Nags Head area? Definitley don't need an "event home" since probably only 15-20 people will come over that night to "party" haha.  I am so thankful I found this board and am soooo appreciative on ANY advice ya'll can give me!!! OBX brides (and groom) are the BEST!!! and there is no way I could ever get married anywhere else :)

Hi KLK, I am so sorry to hear your news, but you will absolutely be able to throw one heck of a party for 30 people for 5K!  There are so many houses you can use as options, I will let the other girls with more experience on this front chime in here.  I know you can make it special!

The house will likely be your biggest expense, you can buy your own booze and save a lot there.  You can also do an ipod instead of a dj and take photos on your own (or even hire someone inexpensive, I have found rates for 800/1000 for 5 hours).  You can skip so many of the expenses by having it at your house.  Maybe figure out where you want to spend your budget and that can help you cut back in other ways.

Don't stress at all, you know everyone here will have great ideas and in the end, you will have your dream by getting married in the OBX with your closest friends and fam!

Everything will turn out wonderful!!! As JAK said, your house will be the majority of your budget, not sure when you were planning, but if you plan off season you will save a lot of money!!!!

We made a little change to our plans too...we just changed our officiant(3 months out!!!) to Rev Jay Bowman!!!!! I just sent him our deposit Friday of last week and waiting to hear back from him saying he got it and we can start planning the ceremony!!!! We originally went with barefoot weddings, they were the cheapest I found and we are on a tight budget, so we went with them. After little communication from them and turning down the opportunity to meet with us, I just couldnt see us using them!!!!! I have heard wonderful things about Rev Jay and knew he would be a great fit from the moment I first talked to him. A little tight on time, but sometimes things happen for the better.

    KLK,
Don't worry! It sounds like this change of plans will be a good thing. Just think, now it will be an intimate gathering of you and your family and closest friends together. I love your idea of doing a meal together after the ceremony. Be careful of the restuarants who will try to charge you a room rental fee (some can be as much as $300 just to use the room).

As for the rental home, if you want to save money and get a bigger place, I would go for a non-oceanfront home. We are renting a nags head home for $800 for the week. Other homes this size which were also oceanfront cost twice as much.

    Hope this helps some!

Soundfront houses rent for much less than ocean front too!  That may be an option!

I am sorry to hear that you are going through all of this klk....but never fear, your faithful obx brides are here!  Corny I know, but wanted to cheer you up some :)

As obxlaura said, the soundfront homes can be much cheaper than anything oceanside or semi-oceanfront, etc.

We are having our rehearsal dinner at Pamlico Jack's and there is no room fee....and this is for the grande room upstairs overlooking the sound!  I was very excited to hear this b/c all of the other places we checked charged fees, which really makes no sense to me b/c you are basically guaranteeing X amoung of people to come eat at the restaurant.  Anyways,  you can look them up online and see if that suits your fancy :)

We're staying on the sound and LOVE it.  It's so much more laid back than the ocean and beach road.  We invited everyone over here for dinner one night and then about half the people came over for about an hour on our wedding night since we didn't do the DJ/dancing reception.  There was more than enough room to spread out with all of the decks.  You could easily save money on food by having something at your house.

Remember, getting married on the beach is FREE and you don't need permits in most towns down this way.  You could throw together simple flowers from Harris Teeter and use an ipod for music.  Our house has an awesome sound system that comes with it and our neigbor's does too.

    I think it's totally doable!

That's it!  Turn it into a positive.  Maybe this is the way things were supposed to happen.  Small is really nice sometimes.

KLK I love your attitude and I'm so sorry all of this happened to you!  The portion I highlighted just made me tear up.

I love Pamlico Jacks.  The deck is just gorgeous and the views are great.  Best of luck to you and your family <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />
