Wine Glass Alternative

Does anyone have any suggestions to a wine glass alternative?  Local rental companies want to charge an astronomical fee to deliver them.  I certainly don't want to make everyone drink out of a solo cup so is there an alternative solution?  I thought about buying some from The Dollor Tree but what would I do with 50 wine glasses after the wedding?  I think that may be my only solution though.  Any suggestions would be great!

Would it be cheaper for you to rent from a company closer to you and take them down to obx?  I only suggest this b/c we discovered that rentals here in Richmond were in fact A LOT cheaper than obx and they provide the heavy duty crates to travel with....it can be a pain in the butt to travel with them, but if it saves you $$ in the long run, then go for it!  Maybe not the best suggestion, but just a thought at least :)

Dollar store is a great idea!  You could always try selling them afterwards!

I actually thought about that but we're leaving the night of the wedding and traveling to Raleigh to get on a flight Sunday morning for Key West.  The rest of my family will be staying out there for the week so I can't count on them to take them back.

Chrissie - You'd think as much as I check the wedding classified board I'd think about that but it never crossed my mind.  Thanks!

Are you doing favors?  Maybe you could make the wine glasses your favors?  Although this may not be as cost effective as you would like...

obxlaura - I do already have my favors.  I thought about this too but my family are the only ones who will be drinking as his family won't go near it and I didn't want to make them feel uncomfortable by giving them wine glasses as favors.  It's a great idea though and would be perfect as I could personalize them.

there are clear plastic cups that still look nice.  (short tumblers)  It might not be a bad idea to use plastic anyway if you are gonig to be outside?

How much are they to rent?  I haven't even looked into this yet.  I wish we could  buy these stuff and store it somewhere for us all to use!  haha.

Rebecca- thank YOU for the idea!  I'm going to go shopping at the dollar store this weekend and see what I can find.  I'm sure it will be cheaper than renting, and at least you have something to show for your money.  And then, like I said, you can make some of it back by selling afterwards!

JAK - Metro Rental rents them for .40 which is really cheap but they charge $50 to deliver them and $50 to pick them up in Manteo.  It wouldn't be so bad if I was renting $1000.00 worth of supplies but I only 50 wine glasses.  I did, however, call Shindigs in Manteo and they rent for the same price with a $35 deliver and $35 pick up.  When I told her that I only needed 50 she was very kind and will only charge me $20 to deliver and pick up.  This means that I can rent 50 for $40.  I'm still undecided if I want to go that route or just buy 50 for the same price.

Yikes!  I didn't realize Metro had those pick up and drop off rates.  Thanks for the heads up, let us know what you end up doing!

I'm more than likely gonna buy them at the Dolloar Tree.  Seeing as how I get paid once a month working for the school system and all of our money just went to the major vendors, I can run in a couple days before the wedding and pick them up.  I did stop by there last night to get the tealight holders and river rocks for the centerpieces so I thought I'd check out the glasses and they're really nice, heavy and good quality.  Plus I'll be able to get some of the money back after the wedding when I sell them.

I rented from Metro Rentals.  Not sure if it makes much of a difference from your venue but they are located in Kitty Hawk.  I rented from them and because i picked them up the day before and dropped them off the day after  . . . i didn't pay any kind of fee for transportation.  I would check into that.  See if someone can pick them up for you and you can avoid the cost all together.

Unfortunately, the drive is to long as our venue is in Manteo and with everything that we have to do the day before, there's no time to make it up that way.

I agree w/ the plastic short "tumblers" - that's what I'm using!!  Afterall, it's all about US and there's no need to break the bank when it's not neccessary.  I think they even make "fancy" looking ones, but in the end, they're cheap (Costco/BJ's have them in huge quantities for cheap), can be thrown out at the end of the night, and still look nice- much nicer than solo cups!!

oriental trading has some cute plastic wine glasses that we used for my sisters wedding 2 years ago.  you can buy them in bulk for pretty reasonable prices.  www.orientaltrading.com
