OVERSPENT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea how we did it, but we way overspent the end of this month. I've taken all our money out of savings (just $400) to pay the bills and we still may be short. I think Anthony put more money in savings then we could afford, but that's only part of it. We spent over $200 on groceries because of having company this past weekend. I bought a textbook on Kagan Cooperative Learning, a blouse and cardigan for my interview today, and a tie for Anthony for a wedding we are going to next month. I am freaking out because we are going to be starting out the month of June paying off the bills from the end of May. Has anyone ever had this happen before? Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

*I make $11.50/hour 40 hours a  week and Anthony makes $10.00/hr 30 hrs a week. Things are supertight. :( We do have a budget, but I guess it didn't work this month.*

  • I am not sure what the question is?  Do you have savings that you can dip into to pay the bills?
  • I guess maybe how to better track spending and prevent this from happening in the future. Sorry it wasn't clear.

  • J and I have used a excel budget on google docs so if we make changes, we both can see what we did.

    Maybe that would help?
  • Feeling you.

We're running what I call car inspection season now (between us, we have 4 cars and they're due for their annual inspections in March, April, May, and June).  Her car (the one she didn't think she'd still have because she was going home to Thailand and should never have been bought) needed new brakes, new accessory belts, new timing belt, new valve cover gasket, new battery, new alternator, and a new fusible link (for the non-car types think very expensive).  I've probably now put more into this car in the two years I've known her than what she spent on the car.  Fortunately, a lot of this work I did myself.

My car needs a brake fluid flush.  Can't do this myself due to not having the fancy computer needed.  That's another $100+.

Our backup car needs a new motor mount ($20 to do it myself, dealer wanted $176!!!!).

On top of this, I just got the car insurance bill....$995

I need some new suits to do interviews in as I've lost so much weight.

The only thing keeping us afloat are the tips from the Thai restaurant she works at.
  • Why do you have 4 cars?  PS...I need to a new car. ;)
