January 2012 Weddings

Keeping warm for January wedding?

What are you ladies planning to wear on your wedding day to keep warm? I've searched some capes/jackets to wear with my wedding dress but (1) I'm tired of spending money and (2) I can't find something that I think looks good with the dress. Suggestions?
Wedding bliss since January 14, 2012!

Re: Keeping warm for January wedding?

  • a pashmina. :)

I got my 4 girls one and myself off ebay for 24.95. This is part of their gift so they don't get cold either.
  • I bought a cape. It's in my siggy.

  • I looked at capes but I don't like how any will look with my dress. I think I'm just going to wear a cute jacket between pictures, and take most pictures without a jacket. I've seen some really cute pictures of brides in cute winter coats over their dresses, so I think I'm going to just go with that.

  • I am getting a cute shoulder shrug from fabulousfurs.com. I don't think it will keep me very warm but it's super cute! Besides, it's so cold here in the winter the only time I plan to spend outside is running to and from the buildings to the limo

  • I have a white stole I was going to wear or a white caplet that I bought last year for new years eve

  • Great idea! I just plan on using booze. Drinking lots of bourbon!.......-kidding. Wedding is in New Orleans, so it likely won't be too cold, but hardly any humidity which means fabulous hair & makeup!..., Yes!..... I may think about the pashmina though, great idea!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Keeping warm for January wedding? : I got Ivory since their dresses are dark purple and my dress is more of an ivory. I am not making them wear them if they don't want too. Only if they get cold. I do think it would be cute to take a pic outside with them quickly. It will probably be about 12 degrees or colder on my wedding day. Gotta love MN!

That is awesome! What color did you get them? My girls are wearing black so I got them black shawls. Also, are you having them wear the pashmina for the ceremony or just wear it for outdoors?

  • I wore a black velvet shawl over my dress. It was very warm since it was only 33 outside and snowing, and I was outside most of the time.

  • I'm also in MN and plan on wearing one of my dress coats over the dress (I have one in ivory -- perfect!). I told the girls to just wear their regular winter coat. I told them straightforwardly that we will be doing outside pictures, some with coats and some without, but I will not put any of them in danger of frostbite :) None of them like the look of fur stoles/capes, and the only other thing that would've gone with their dresses is those expensive satin wraps that don't really keep you warm.
  • Ash? Did I know you were from MN? hmm strange, I would think I would have remembered that.

Where are you getting married? I am from down south near Rochester. But we are getting married in Lakeville.
  • I LOVE your cape Tara!!

I also love the shoulder shrug idea. I saw a girl who used shrugs and muffs for her bridesmaids instead of bouquets. Adorable!
  • hippolover, I'm in the Twin Cities area. Our ceremony is in St. Paul, reception in Mpls. I'm so glad it finally snowed last night! Now I feel like I'm actually in my winter wedding season. I think we're date twins too! It's coming up quickly :)
  • Too bad I am not actually there Ash. I actually live in CO right now. My FI went to Eagan high school. Plus we have a lot of family in the cities, so when we are home we spend a lot of time in the citie.

    YAY date twins!
  • I am making shawls for my girls out of fake fur to match the one that FIs aunt is making for me. I am also making capes for the Fgs
