I am getting my cake from Busy B's Bakery and my friend got her's there too. The price was not too bad and they have been great to work with! We went to Nadine's Bakery too, but they were very unprofessional, more expensive, and the cake wasn't as good. 

A friend of mine got married on a very small budget and she got her cake from Albertson's. It was really good and looked really nice and she said it was a lot less expensive than the traditional bakeries.

We ended up going with Sweet Creations - Iliana (who is great to work with!) quoted us $580 for 100 people, which included the deivery fee.  Since you need cake for half those guests, I think you should definitely be able to do it for $300. I've also heard great things about Albertson's.

Iliana from Sweet Creations is the best and her cake is unbelievable.

If you are only haven't 50 people, then there should be several options. Our cake from Busy B's feeds over 100 people. We got that and the groom's cake for about $450.
