Children at the Wedding

My parents are putting on our Wedding June 2010 in their beautiful backyard that has a open pool and a pond. They do not want kids there do to the fact that they can be a liability, someone falling in the pool or pond. My suggestion is to have my future husbands niece be the flower girl and then we will hire a sitter to watch the flower girl and her younger sister. I do not want to hurt anyones feelings, any suggestions?

I'm in a similar situation: Our wedding will be at a location that has a deep pond nearby and we will have 2 little ring-bearers (my nephews) and 1 little flower girl (my cousin's daughter). We plan on inviting my sister's in-laws (the kids' grandparents) to watch over the 2 boys.  The thing is, everyone will want to relax and have fun, but since these grandparents don't know that many people at the reception, hopefully they will focus on watching the kids.  Of course, the alternative is to hire a professional nanny for the duration of the event.
