New to the Knot

Hello -- I am newly engaged and obviously new to the Knot!  I am excitedly starting to plan the big day, but have already run into some road bumps (this is gonna be a long road, huh?).  The biggest issue is my fiance, Josh, and I are considering an October 2010 wedding BUT we also think we want an outdoor wedding.  We have been getting ALOT of negative feedback that you can't have an outdoor wedding in October (we are looking at the 2nd or 16th).  Any comments from other brides out there?  We think a fall outdoor wedding, at the foot of the moutains would be a gorgeous backdrop to start our married lives together.

I love your idea of an early Oct wedding, but you are definitely risking the weather, My family always participates in a diabetes walk that week of the year and some years the weather is amazing but others its freezing, raining and one year even snowed a little!  I wouldnt completely rule it out, but get some information and maybe a venue can offer a weather backup!

Hello, welcome and congrats!  Are you speaking of just an outdoor ceremony or the whole thing?  An outdoor ceremony can be iffy any time, so you should always have a back-up plan.  We had an outdoor wedding in May, but had an indoor location available as well because you just never know what Mother Nature has in mind.  Oct. 2 usually is beautiful, with summer just ending, the weather temp should be great.  The 16th would most likely be good too, but just have a back-up.  If you mean the entire thing outside, it could get a lil cold.  What is it that bothers everyone?Lisa Beth

We are having an outdoor ceremony on Oct. 17th. I am hoping for gorgeous weather, but we do have an indoor location as backup just in case.We are also holding parts of our reception outside. Our venue has an outdoor (but covered) deck that we are using for cocktail hour and dancing. We are having dinner inside. We are going to have large outdoor heaters in case it's a little chilly to help warm things up.

what about a late september wedding? that way you arent worried about the weather? or very early october. either way ALWAYS have a plan B in case the weather goes bad, and realize that nothing can go perfect as you plan. GL planning and welcome!
