How much are you paying for cake?

I've called a few places for wedding cakes and they told me they start at $6 a slice. How much should I be paying in the Bay Area?

That sounds about standard.  I don't know what my cake is by slice, but I think everything will be around $1000 for about 120-150 guests.

That is what I got quoted a lot as well but I refused to spend that much. I suggest asking around and seeing if any friends know someone who does wedding cakes on the side. We found someone who does them out of her home (she's a good friend of my cousin) and we are not paying a lot and still getting a cake and a dessert bar. HTH!

We got our wedding cake from Sugarbowl Bakery and they did a great job. It was around $1,000 for a 4 tier square cake and 2 half sheets for 325 people.
    Good Luck!

I'm paying $1095 for my cake.  It's supposed to serve 120-150.  The rest is sheet cake.  We have about 300+ guests.  Plus, our cake lady isn't charging us for the top tier.

I am doing cupcakes and a small cutting cake for about 500-600 and we are feeding approx 130 people  (need to get final qoute). Cupcakes are way cheaper and I think they are more fun.

I used Filigree in Pleasanton. She is also $5-$7/slice. It will depend on how intricate you want your design. I spent $650 for a 3 tiered beautiful cake with two flavors and a 1/2 sheet, two tiered groom's cake.

I was also not happy with the pricing at first and my friend was going to make a small display one for me to cut and then buy some sheet cakes from Costco, but she couldn't and I decided I wanted a specific design that required fondant know-how.

We found a lady who makes cakes out of her home in the east bay (and has been doing this for 20 years). She charges $3 a slice.

We're going through Mazzetti's Bakery in Pacifica. We paying $440 for three flavors and a 4 tiered caked (well the bottom two stacked and top two tiered) for 150 people and that includes delivery and set up. We also have a $20 deposit down for their tier supports which we get back once we return them.

We love them because instead of baking the cake a couple days before, decorating and refrigerating they start making it a midnight that night so its completely fresh!!!!!  Yum!!

I paid about $750 for a cake that served 175 people.  idoweddingcakes.biz  She was worth the drive down to Morgan Hill.  The cakes tasted homemade.

Have you checked out Schubert's Bakery on Clement?  I think their cakes are fairly reasonable too.  Also, Chinese bakeries often do wedding cakes for about $2-3/slice.

$6/slice is competitive in the Bay Area.  I'd recommend using a sheet-cake to supplement the wedding cake.  For $750 total, I got a 3-tiered cake to feed 70 people and 1 full sheet cake to feed 100 people.  I went with Margaret's French Bakery because she is so sweet, her cake is yummy, & her designs are absolutely gorgeous!

Cake Expressions is a little cheaper than Margaret's and Cero will even bake you the top tier of your cake for no charge on your 1-year anniversary.  However, I thought Margaret's designs were better.
