vendor reviews State College area LONG

Well, the wedding has been 10 days past, so I thought I'd do at least a few vendor reviews to help some of you other State College brides :)  This may end up being a 2 part post...we'll see! Also a little disclaimer...everything went wonderfully and there was no major mishaps, so I am being fairly critical in these reviews.Photographer:  VJM Studios (Boalsburg)...these guys are wonderful!!  We haven't gotten our photos yet, but the engagement ones were awesome, so I have no doubt the wedding ones will be.  Everyone has said how nice they were and easy to work with.  They took all the photos we asked for and the poses look great (I know that because of some of the amateur photos friends took).  My SIL spilled soda on her dress and Vicky was there with supplies to clean it up right away!!  I also know she was super prepared with safety pins, etc just in case!  They really kept the wedding flowing and were ready for any issues that could have arisen.  I can not say enough good things about them!Florist:  The Flower Basket (Bellefonte)...unfortunately I don't have good things to say because she stopped returning my phone calls and I always had to hunt her down, etc.  So, two weeks before the wedding I went on a panic to find someone new because I was very uncomfortable with how unreliable she had been up to that point.  So, the actually florist was Woodring's (State College) and they were amazing.  The wedding consultant (whose name escapes me) took time to show me everything and how it would look and was very helpful with picking things and making decisions.  The man who delivered them brought them right to the hotel room I was in and gave us a heads up that one of the flowers was fragile and needed water up until the wedding, which was really helpful.DJ: Dance Harmony/Kevin Fee (Pleasant Gap)  I thought Kevin was great and did an outstanding job, he played things on our playlist, took a few requests and made sure they were audience appropriate.  One of my husband's guests requested a song which only she would know how to dance to (it was a very unique form of dance), which annoyed me (because she does that sort of thing for attention all the time) and he let her do it, but faded out and onto another song after a minute or so, which was nice.  There was one song that cleared the dance floor and it would have been nice if he would have faded that one and change to something people liked, but DH thinks it was a good break, which is probably true!  My DH felt that for the price he should have provided some lighting or a discoball or something (I'm not really sure what he wanted but anyways...).Ceremony/Reception Site: Days Inn (State College): I'll be honest the ball room is very basic, we selected this location because we wanted an outdoor ceremony, but were concerned with heat/weather and the Days Inn has a beautiful indoor atrium with a gazebo/waterfall/etc.  During the planning process I was iffy about the Days Inn only because I felt like the wedding coordinator wasn't always listening to what I wanted or was trying to override with how she thought it should be.  Two days before I met with her and the banquet coordinator and I felt so much better, they were willing to do everything we wanted (including my Dad's outrageous request of bringing all the extra food to our table....which 80% of never got eaten).  They really had everything exactly how I wanted (that being said I gave super detailed instructions).  The food was outstanding, the only complaint was the AC broke, so the ballroom was warm, but once they opened the doors between the ballroom and the atrium it was much better.Cake: Dolce Vita Desserts (Boalsburg): Mary did such an awesome job with our cake and cupcakes (we used cupcakes for our centerpieces).  She did exactly what we wanted (we had brought pictures from online) and the cake was delicious!!!  She also gave me detailed instructions on how to freeze the top layer.  I think those are all the big things...if there is anything else anyone would like recommendations/has questions on let me know...I'd be happy to share!! :)

Thank you for the reviews!  Glad to hear you had such a good day.  Did you get your hair and make-up done anywhere?  I would love to hear about that!

I got my hair (and the BMs) done at Euphoria on Calderway.  Landon did mine and did a great job, as did Jess(e?) with the girls.  One of the other stylists did not do as good of a job on one of my girls.  My sister helped me do my makeup, so no help there.  We did get our nails done though at JStephens Salon and Spa (on Waddle Road) and they did an excellent job and it was a great experience (they let us bring champagne, etc).  I also went there to get my haircut 2 days after the wedding (I needed the long hair to go ASAP) and they did a great job.  Let me know if I can help with anything else...I am happy to pass along my new knowledge :)

The wedding consultant at Woodrings is Stephanie.  She is absolutely wonderful!  I loved her!
