Engagement Announcement

Hi everyone!I just recently got engaged this week! I'm so happy. I was wondering what I should do about engagement announcements. I often heard that you should use the same photographer as you will for your wedding for your engagment photos. My fiance and me are finishing our last year of college and will get married after that. Should i wait to put the announcement in the paper till closer to the wedding? Should i use a professional photographer and get our photos now or should i just have a family member or friend do them. Thank you for all your help!!

First, congrats. Most photographers you book for your wedding will include an engagement session (or offer one outside of the package for a discount). Doing your e-session with your wedding photographer is great because it enables you to get to know each other before the wedding, plus you don't often get the chance to have pro pics of you and FI in non-wedding clothes. We were engaged in March 08 (wedding June 09), did our e-session with our wedding photog in late October, put announcement in in November so that we could submit a pro e-pic. But you don't have to submit a pro pic. We actually ended up using a pic from an amateur (but pro-level camera) from a session we did in June 08 since I wasn't in love with our 'traditional' pro e-pics.
