I never read that you get a deposit back, it just goes towards the final cost. So, the room I am renting is $1000, so my deposit was $500 so I will only owe $500.  You have to pay for insurance and then they reimburse you.  Is that what you are talking about?

Having been thru a few weddings, pretty much every deposit you make is nonrefundable if you call off or move the wedding.  Read your contracts before signing them.  The venue has every right to keep a nonrefundable deposit if you cancel your wedding.

I am having my wedidng there and you don't get the deposit for the room back, what you do get back is the security deposit back pending nothing is damaged in the room.

I just had my wedding at Mellwood this past weekend.  It was great!  You will not get your deposit back.  That goes towards your final cost.  You will, however, have to pay them an extra security deposit sometime in the last month before your wedding.  This is in addition to the price you were already quoted (ex:  The room you are renting costs $1000, the security deposit is $350).  You will get the security deposit back sometime after the wedding, as long as nothing is damaged within the room.
  • I just got my security deposit back from my labor day weekend wedding. (so it took 3 months) I really liked the location and the facility, but their customer service was not great. They treat you like they are doing you a favor by renting you the place.
  • We're also having our wedding at Mellwood.  I've read mixed reviews, but I've actually had good communications with the office.  It you like the look, I say go for it because there isn't anything similar to it around.  For those of you that have already had your wedding there, where did your out of town guests stay?  Many of ours are staying at the Ramada nearby and I'm a little concerns about it.
