Bridal shops?

I will be going to look at wedding dresses soon. Any advice on good bridal shops? I'm getting married June 2011 so I have a little while but wanted to get started looking. Also, what time of year is best to shop for wedding dresses, like is there a certain time of the year that shops may have more to choose from or may have dresses on sale?

Thanks! :)

I just bought mine from Bridal Warehouse on Hurstbourne Lane and they have been fabulous!  I ordered my dress a week ago and it came in today.  Tiffanie was my consultant and she was more than accomodating.  She let me come back twice to keep trying on the same dress until I was ready.

I had a totally other experience at David's Bridal...ergh.  First off my consultant (referred to now as C) started the appointment by professing how sick she felt (I'm not a big fan of germs).  Then as I explained to her what kind of dresses I liked, she told me to start pulling things and disappeared for about 15minutes.  They didn't have very many to choose from in size 4, but I pulled a few.  When I started trying them on with her she started asking me questions about how I was planning my wedding (I'm doing it all myself I said).  She tried to then convince me to let her plan my wedding and gave me one of her cards (while I was in the midst of changing).  I came out of the room to show my family a few times and it was readily apparent that there were all kinds of stains and rips in the dresses that I was trying on.  She would leave us for ten minutes at a time to go find other dresses that she thought I might like (which I didn't because she wasn't listening to the fact that I liked plain dresses).  The icing on the cake was when she told me that I needed Spanx to make the dress look better on me.  You should never ever ever tell anyone that they need Spanx, regardless of the reality of the situation.  Egads.

I was having a hard time finding a dress that was more simplistic elegance and didn't have all of the "stuff" on it.  It seemed like as I was looking if the dress had sequins, it had jewels, and if it had jewels then it had feathers, etc.  Mine is a fit-and-flare style in silk taffeta.  It is diamond white in color (slightly off white - I'm getting married in December and don't want to look too washed out).  It is ruched all the way down to the flare part, where it flares out straight.  There are buttons (not functional) all the way down the back to the end of the train.  I absolutely love it.  Sorry haven't found any pics online yet!

I've been to Bridal Warehouse and David's.

Bridal Warehouse was fine initially. I was able to pick out my bridesmaids dress and loved them. Then I sent my girls over to try them on and order them, when BW "lost" all my info. Name, Address, BM's info, Dress Style, Color, ETC. They had nothing. I was furious. I spent 2 hours or so working with their staff and they had no record of it. Needless to say, I haven't been back.

David's has been awesome. I've ordered my dress, slip, bra, rehearsal dinner dress, veil, etc from there and couldn't be happier. They have been very patient and understanding. My consultant is wonderful and super sweet. I probably tried on 20-30 gowns and she listened to what i liked/disliked, and never acted like she minded pulling more gowns to try on, etc. I feel like a regular there and am always greeted by name everytime I go in. I would recommend going to the Clarksville location.

    Good Luck!

I had a great experience at the Louisville David's with my second consultant. Her name was Barbara and she was absolutely amazing.  She actually was the one who found my dress for me.  I thought it was ugly on the hanger, but she said she was just trying to get a good size on me, so I tried it on and fell in love with it.  Also, always make an appt and try to not go in on a weekend if you can help it.  I went on a weekday night and it was great.  Oh and if you have your shoes and undergarments, you'll want to take those with you as it will really change the way that the dress fits on you.

    Up in Cinnci?

I am looking into going up there for my dress. I googled and saw some not so nice reviews of their store so I have been putting it off. Maybe I will go for sure now.

Yep! i had heard good things about them on here so I took a day and went to bridal warehouse then bridal and formal. I didn't realize when I went that the whole block that b&f is on is for wedding stuff (bride'smaids and shoes and alterations etc.)  I didn't have an appointment and we just walked and they llelt us look  around at BM and MOB dresses and try one like 40 and then they pointed me to the section of the gowns that would fit me and be around my price range and I got to pick as many as wanted and try them all on.  The only problem for me was that they had a large room for everyone to change in or a couple smaller rooms but no curtains on them . I don't like being exposed, but other than that my experiance was really good.

I bought mine from Rebecca's.  Went to Bridal Warehouse and HATED it.  Also, had been in David's previously, and HATED that too.  Everybody has a different experience with those two, though - I'd say it's 50% hate and 50% love, with nobody claiming to be in the middle (at least on here).

There are a bunch of slightly older threads about dress shops in the area, too.

Ditto Rebecca's - they are absolutely awesome!  Got my dress, veil and headpiece there, and will be going back for my BM dresses.  The ladies that work there are so nice and helpful!  Couldn't have had a better experience.

    Hi girls,

Hasn't anyone heard of Dolce Vita Bridal Shop in Middletown? We have been advertising in Louisville Bride (our dress was on the cover a couple issues ago),
The Perfect Wedding Guide (full page ad  right next to Bridal Warehouse ad) The Voice Wedding Issues and various other publications for about three years. We are here serving Louisville brides and loving it. We design custom cage veils, and veil headpieces to go with any dress. We also make beautiful beaded satin sashes for dresses.  Our gowns are beautiful and  affordable with prices from $299-$1400. An appointment is not necessary, so stop in or check out our website www.LaDolceVitaBridal.com. We've had  a lot of brides who were so happy they did. We are doing the Nunnlea Bridal Show Aug. 8th, 1p-4p and will be giving away a $150 coupon, good for any dress in our store, even the sale gowns.
    Thanks for reading....!

The Couture Closet in LaGrange is the best experience I have had looking for dresses.  I have been in 17 weddings and it was by far the best shop I have been to.  I bought my dress, veil and accessories there.  LOVE them and they make you feel special!

I bought my dress at the Couture Closet in LaGrange, so depending upon your budget, I would HIGHLY recommend them!  Both of the owners take the time to talk to you an get YOUR vision of yourself for the big day, even if you bring a lot of people with you they have a way of making sure that you are heard.

I was overwhelmed by the variety and selection of gowns there. The headpieces, veils, and shoes...you name it - they have it! Have sent sooo many brides to them!Wink
