Can I plan a wedding in 5 months?

Is this possible? He's going to propose soon to make it official, and we would like to get married this September — is it possible to plan and organize a nice wedding for about 100-120 people?

Also, does anyone know of any rustic style barn venues around the GTA?

It's definitely possible, but you will be a busy bride-to-be!  Best wait until it is official before putting down any deposits!

I agree to wait until its officla! Its possible, but you may not get your first pick of everything. Just be open-minded and everything will be fine :)

As for farms... I am in Milton and there is a wedding venue here I think its Crawford Lake or Country Heritage Park  (they could both be incorrect so check up on it). Its definitely a farm!

I wish we just went ahead and did a short engagement. My FI proposed on Nov 26th 2009  and we wanted to get married that May but I was freaked out that we wouldn't have enough time. Well we are finally getting married this May 14th and let me tell you the last year and a half has taken forever to get here.
It was too much time, we did so much right away that we just sat and waited for a whole year and a bit now it's cruch time. I say just do it :)

Thanks everyone. I know that planning this in 5 months is not an impossible feat, and in some ways, I think it may even be easier as I won't have time to deliberate or go back and forth on decisions — I can be excruciatingly indecisive and I will often second guess myself. If I had to make hard decisions fast and base all on first instinct/intuition, I think that we could fare very well in the end. Laughing

I've also seen that barn in Milton — I think it may be the Gambrel Barn? It is definitely worth checking out.

I think you can definitely do it, just be aware that 9/10/11 is a super popular date!  I think if you're flexible and determined (and a little organized would help!) you could definitely do it.
    Good luck!

    Gambrel... I have no idea!

Here's a link for Country Heritage Park -the only thing I know is that its great for grade 3 fieldtrips! haha  But they definitely have weddings there

Gambrel is most likely booked...it books up VERY far in advance (when I was getting married I called in October 2009 looking for October 2010 and they were booking for April 2011...and that was even if you wanted Fridays or Sundays! I couldn't believe it).

We got married at Knollwood Golf Club in Ancaster (pics in planning and married bio)...it is an old barn (2 actually) on a golf course (2 actually!)...it is definitely the tail end of the GTA though.

I think your best bet would be finding a nice restaurant and book it.

In addition to what PP have suggested, the only other outdoor sort of rustic venues I can think of are these two:

    Westfield Heritage Village: http://www.conservationhamilton.ca/westfield-weddings/westfield/westfield-weddings

    Black Creek Pioneer Village: http://www.blackcreek.ca/private-functions/weddings/

Re: the previous suggestion for Knollwood, it is a nice place but when we were looking in Sept 2010, October 29th was the only Saturday they had left with an indoor hall (they had other dates if you wanted to do an outdoor tented reception).  They have more options if you have a smaller group (<100 people) or are open to a Friday or Sunday.

Yes I did my first wedding in three weeks, you just need to be organized and have an idea of what you want and flexible for what you can not have.

It is definitely possible. One of my friends planned her wedding in 3 weeks. But you might be very busy or frustrated if you are detail oridented. And you might need to be more flexible about lots of proceeds. Start doing some research. :)

Absolutely.  My fiance proposed in early February (no, not Valentine's Day!), and I'm ready for a May 2011 wedding, although our date is May 2012.  The waiting is hard, but we had to for our guests to be able to travel in for it, etc.

Rustic/bran styles: Not sure if these suit...

    - Black Creek Pioneer Village as suggested above - bear in mind that most venues don't have electricity and are not easily accessible for guests with wheelchairs or walkers

    - Berkeley Church is kinda cool - http://www.berkeleyevents.com/

    - Country Heritage Park in Milton - http://www.countryheritagepark.com/

I'm doing it right now!  my fiance proposed in early february and we are getting married beginning of september!  We decided to do a Friday night ceremony before the sept. long weekend and everything is falling into place nicely!  When I was trying to find a spot for the ceremony, there wasn't anything for the saturdays or sundays, so if your not picky about the day of the week, go with a friday night if you can!!

    Good Luck in your planning!!

I am having the same issue! I think it can be done but my only problem is that it might not give your guests enough time to take off or plan for.
