Need some guidance

Does anyone else feel overwhelmed by all the options that are out there??  I feel like I'm having to do research for some wedding information as I was oblivious to what some things are! haha
Our wedding date is July 9th 2011, we live in Southern Alberta but will be getting married in South Western Ontario.  Is it too soon to be checking things out and making decisions?

Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Lucky for you, these boards are a great place to help keep you on track! Smile

I assume/hope you already have a budget and guest list drafted? (It may seem crazy early to do a guest list now, but doing it early was the best thing we did in our wedding planning. It helped guide every decision after that.)

IIf so, now is a good time to start checking out ceremony and reception venues, especially because you're planning from a distance. Once you've booked the venues, I'd look for a photographer and videographer if you want one. Then you should be good for a while.

I know it's overwhelming, but just take it one step at a time. i found the Knot checklist really helpful. Also, my budget actually helped guide our planning process - we just looked at it to see what had been done and what hadn't, and made decisions one at a time.

You will find lots of choice for every single aspect of the planning process, but if it's not important to you, don't feel obligated to go nuts over it. For example, we had several meetings with our venue to make sure the menu was PERFECT, but we booked the first DJ we met and spent next to no time picking flowers.

This board and the Canada board are sometimes a little slow, but still helpful for local info. I also found my month club board (in your case, July 2011) super helpful for keeping me on track.

Good luck and feel free to come back with more specific questions!

It's never too early to look for a dress! There are definately decision you should make soon:  the guest list and  the wedding party.

I agree with Ring_pop about booking the venue as soon as you have a quest list. This felt like the biggest decision for me and I was really stressed until I got it done: I booked the venue last month and our wedding is in September, luckily we got the location we wanted, but it was really last minute :)

After you have a venue booked you'll have a better idea of which choices make sense for you, so maybe things will be less overwhelming.
    Good luck!

Hall and church(if your considering) need to be booked asap, followed by photographers and videographers.

I am just getting started and my wedding in next September, mind you I almost lost my hall and it's already booked for next September.

Checklists are great, keep your organized!
Love the knot, so many great ideas.

    All the best

Not sure where in Soutrhen Ontario you are planning, but we are planning for next June, and thankfully we are okay with a Sunday becuase most places we have seen are booked up for Saturday. I would sugest you get your venue booked ASAP.
