Help picking a venue in Durham Region

Hello
I need some good and bad experiences of different venues in the Durham Region.

I am having a hard time trying to find somewhere for a ceremony THAT IS NOT A CHURCH and then a place for a reception around the whitby/ajax area is prefered.
We are looking at July 2011 and about 130 guests!!!  Any help or comments will be exteremly helpful!!  Thanks!

What about Trafalger Castle in Whitby? I've never been to a weddig there but the grounds are beautiful and scenic.

I love trafalgar, and it was my first choice.  but they don't have air conditioning in the chapel and in the middle of July, might not be such a good idea :(

Thanks for your suggestion though.  I really appreciate it

We booked the Royal Ashford Golf Club. It's just north of Whitby.

The other place I thought of is the Lake House in Pickering-it looks like a New England kind of house.

My wedding was in a church with no air conditioning in August, but with fans it was fine!  Trafalger is beautiful!

We booked at Tosca Wedding Hall, and you can opt to have a ceremony in their outdoor gardens! It is a really beautiful location, and the catering is pretty affordable too. Good luck!

outdoor ceremony is nice at the estates of parkwood in the sunken garden.  The Ajax Convention Centre is really nice inside for a reception.  The lobby is really nice for mingling.  I was a bridesmaid for a wedding there and it was really nice.  (not sure of the costs)...

Parkwood is beautiful!!!!! i live SOOO close! we booked newcastle town hall... it is stunning and cheap, you can have your ceremony outside by the gazebo. Also, bloomfield gardens in newcastle is very nice.

Lots of choices if you stray a bit from ajax/whitby.

We are having our reception at Heydenshore Pavilion in Whitby. It is right on the waterfront and is a very blank slate so you can do whatever you please decor wise, and you can bring in your own caterer.  Our caterer is coming from Peterborough and has fantastic prices.

Something to look into if you don't want to go the route where everything is included... I didn't.  I wanted to have creative control :)
