Selling Gown

Hi Ladies,

My wedding was 12 days ago.. yay! All the craziness is finally over. I want to sell my gown as as soon as possible. I went today and got an estimate as to how much it would cost me to clean it and it's $400. So anyway I was thinking about this that if I have people trying it on then it would get dirty again. The gown is clean from the outside and there's no smell or anything. Surprisingly I didn't sweat. very much. The only dirt it has is the inside bottom of the gown when we went to the park to take photos.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be clean when I sell it. I just don't want to pay another $400 just in case I don't sell it plus the cost of preserving it.
Also, how do you figure out the price. I did some alterations on the bust line and made it into a sweetheart style. Do you add the cost of alterations on top of the price plus if the buyer agrees to buy the I would take it to get cleaned therefore add the cost to the price?

Help...
Thanks

You should definitely have it cleaned before you sell it and before anyone tries it on. Think about it this way: would you try on clothing that someone had worn all day long but "didn't sweat very much" in?

You definitely add the price of the alterations to the price you paid and from there you can figure out your selling price. I would almost say to offer it at least half price, but that is up to you.  You have to decide how much you want to be paid for it.

I didn't get a quote on how much it'll be in order to clean and preserve my dress but saw this now. Does it really cost that much??? That's kinda nuts!

Also, are most of you selling your dresses or keeping them?

And out of those who got it cleaned after the wedding, can you provide contacts and how much it cost you? I don't want to take it to some random dry cleaning place and get it ruined...

I still have mine from a year ago and haven't decided what to do with it.  I wanted to do a TTD session but I don't know if I'll ever get into it again!!!  If so, that would be fun, and if not, I'll probably sell it.

I'm going ot have my dress cut up eventually and made into a christening outfit for our eventual baby (years away!) and also a baby duvet! I know it sounds strange but, I can't imagine parting with my dress and I feel like it would be a great way to keep it around!

Littlin - sounds fun! I don't think i'd be able to do this to my dress but have fun if you do end up doing it... My friend got married in Mexico so she went swimming in it. The pictures look awesome. :)

    - that's a really unique and cool idea. i actually do like it a lot, especialy the baby duvet!!!

I don't think i can part with my dress either. but feel it's such a waste just hanging in my closet.

Did you girls get your dry cleaned?
