My writing is not great, but mine turned out fine.  You'd be surprised what a fun calligraphy pen will do to your writing even when you don't really know how to use it.  I got one from Michael's and my invites honestly turned out great.  You don't have a friend or anyone with pretty writing?  I'm sure if you took an ad out on Craig's list you could find someone, but I think you would only find calligraphers.

A lot of people just do labels as well with nice font.  If you use good ink and labels, it will still look great.

If you can, I would just use a nice font, and print directly onto the envelopes.  Personally, I think labels look too "business like".

I second the calligraphy pen idea though!  It adds a neat flare to your handwriting.  Test it out, and for the price of the pen, if you don't like the result, look for another option.  You could surprise yourself!

I haven't used her but Angela at Calligraphy by Angela has been recommended to me.  Her work looks good and lots of good reviews.  Prices are on her site.

Using printed labes saves you twice:

    1) it's easy to keep track of invitees (and when they reply) and
    2) for thank you cards, you can just print all the labels again!

(a friend gave me that tidbit...)

I used printed labels as well with nice "caligraphy" font so if you are not able to find someone, that's another option :)
