Great Experience Registering at the Bay

I thought I would write a post about our positive experience registering.

We went to The Bay at Square One around 7pm on Saturday evening. There were about 3 other couples also registering, and no one else in the store. The girl who set up our registry mentioned that we were only her second couple, but she was very competent and obviously well trained. I also liked that she didn't pressure or try to sell us on anything and just let us do our own thing.

The older gentleman working in the housewares department was excellent. He went out of his way to help us find prices and boxes to scan and gave great advice on which items were better than others. He suggested the best choice for different price ranges (e.g. mid-budget knives). I did research on the items we chose, and everything he suggested was what I would have picked. He was also like a ninja, managing to unlock display cases without us noticing, before we even needed to ask. He also only gave advice when we asked, which I really appreciated.

If you need to register at the Bay, I highly recommend the Square One location, especially on a Saturday evening. It was also clean and organized, which made the process a lot faster.

Now if only their web site was as good as their staff...

Re: Great Experience Registering at the Bay

  • Glad you had a good experience!

Our experience was also quite smooth (although at a different location) - The Bay seems to have their stuff together, they do a lot of registries and it shows.

In case they didn't tell you, if people order the phone they get the regular price only.  To get the sales they have to go into the store or online - I had some people order and then re-order their gifts because the sales at The Bay are often good sales (because their regular prices are so high!).]

I have noticed their website has gotten better over the last 6-12 months, you can order SOME stuff online now!
  • The thing that's annoying me about their web site is "discontinued" products. I added every possible KitchenAid 12-cup food processor (even the brand new one they are advertising) and they all said "discontinued".
  • Great to know -- we too are registering at the Bay Square One. I've bought gifts using the regsitry services there as a guest and found them to be very helpful.

Are you supposed to get some sort of card in the mail? When I went into the Burlington store to update they asked me for my card? I haven't received anything in terms of a book, the little cards to go into shower invites, a "card" (i guess with the registry number?) nothing.
  • i have a few items on my bay registry that are "discontinued". I thought that since they were still showing up as items online that people could purchase them. One of my "discontinued" knife sets is showing up as purchased. Do I get the actual product, or am I getting the value of that? I'm confused by these discontinued items!
  • Adding items to your registry is much better now that they have updated their website!  Previously, you could only add in store or by calling the store directly. Very annoying. I'm glad they have fixed that.
My only comment is that if your item is not normally in stock (we had a coloured kitchenaid standmixer on our registry) it can take FOREVER to come in. We waited between 6-8 weeks for several items to arrive, even though they were purchased by guests before the wedding.
  • Update: Finally went in to the Bay Square One. I also had a GREAT experience! Olga was extremely helpful and walked us through everything. We went in at about 8:30 last night for a different purpose but swung by just to ask about something, and they did the full orientation even though they were just closing down. They really were very nice to work with and I look forward to completing my registry with them!

....and Crate & Barrel next door but they don't need to know that.
  • When it says "Discontinued", it just means the item is the last of its line.  But like PPs, it was weird seeing current or new models listed as discontinued.  I think it's just a glitch in the system.

</div><div>And don't forget William Ashley! But I would suggest registering at the Bloor street location. It's much bigger.</div><div>

  • We are not registering anywhere this time around... Second marriages . I remember how much fun it was though. Pick things that you could not buy yourself and that you fall in love with!
