Reception wedding?

Hi ladies.

Has anyone out there planned a reception wedding vs a full traditional wedding? If so, do you have any tips? I am thinking a reception that starts around 7:30, open bar, band, dancing a few tables if people want to sit down and then food stations later in the evening. Do you think this way will cut costs? Thanks and happy planning.

Re: Reception wedding?

  • Do you mean a cocktail reception versus a sit down dinner?  If that's the case, we had a reception that was reminiscent of a cocktail reception/gala evening where people could mingle more instead of being stuck in seats for a seated dinner for 3 hours. But we also wanted to make sure there was lots of food.   We had live food stations ranging from pasta to BBQ to sliders and poutine plus lots of hors d'oeurves and other things.  It was definitely cheaper than having a seated dinner but we still made sure to have enough tables and chairs for everyone.  In fact, we still had a seating plan since we had about 150 people there.

In terms of food, depending on what you choose your costs can be the same or more.  For example, if you do a lot of seafood and steak or prime rib, costs may be the same.
  • what area of the GTA are you looking for??
