Cake question...

How much are you ladies spending on your cake?? My FI and I went to a tasting yesterday and the cake we designed ended up totaling close to $900. I didn't think wedding cakes would be more than 500, I mean, it's just cake. Now I'm thinking..if I just bake cupcakes myself...we could use the money towards more days on our HM! That could be tacky though. I've always dreamed of a beautiful cake at my wedding. ugh, I'm flustered.

I am paying a little under $400 for my cake. I using Ciao Bakery in Harrisburg, they are connected to Bricco Resturant! We just had our cake tasting on Friday and it  was quite yummy. They will do as many flavors, no matter how fancy, for one base price. Your cake price is going to be based on how many people you are having, how fancy the design of the cake, how far they have to deliver the cake and sometimes the flavors you get. I would reccomend that you nix the homemade cupcake idea, you are going to have enough on your plate. Instead shop around, even go to a grocery store! And if you are in the Harrisburg area, I would of course reccomend Ciao.

Wow, I think that's a lot for a cake too. We're having cake for 220 and it's costing us $400. We're using the Fancy Cake Shop in Carlisle. We're having 4 different filling flavors, but to cut on the cost we're having sheet cakes in the back. No one will know and it will save you a ton of money! I wouldn't stress myself out making cupcakes. Keep looking around...you can find a cake for much less than $900.

I used Sprinkles and Swirls.  I had cupcakes and a small cake to cut.  We had 96 cupcakes with 3 different flavors and with delivery and everything I think it was around $317 plus a $75 deposit you get back when you return the cake stand. Delicious cake and very cute cupcakes :)

We are indulging for our cake... we went to a bunch of tastings and no one impressed us, until we got to House of Clarendon. We decided to go with his cake because it was so tasty. His cake flavors/fillings are all the same price, but we have a fairly fancy design (in terms of hand decoration), so it is going to be about $900 (including stand/delivery) for 125 people... we actually will be having less guests, so the price will come down. Don't spend your time baking cupcakes, you will be tooooo busy for that. However, you could design a smaller cake with sheet cakes or use a grocery bakery to lower the cost..GL!

We ended up going with Sprinkles and Swirls cupcakes with a cake on top.  Her cupcakes were tasty and she also does cakes too.  I think we are spending around 400 for 150 people.

Ok...first of all, it's NOT "just cake"!!! If you had any idea of the total cost in making a wedding cake, not to mention the labor involved! My other question would be, what type of bakery did you go to: a well known, high-end or a mid-range? how many servings is the cake to feed? And how is it decorated? in buttercream, or fondant? sugar flowers? intricate piping? gourmet flavors/fillings? security deposit for anything like a cake plateau or internal structure items? delivery costs? All of this stuff contributes to a higher-priced cake and must be taken into consideration. The average cake cost in this area ranges from $3.50-$5.00 per serving.

We also went to House of Clarendon and I can't believe how amazing Martin is. We didn't want to spend more than $500 but we will be spending about $630 and I don't care, it's worth it. His cake tastes so good and the fondant is so thin, you don't get that gross buttery taste that most wedding cakes have.

Where is your wedding? I used Cental manor Bakery in Lancaster and only paid $250 for 140 servings. The cake wasn't as important to me either but it still looked great and tasted great too! If you want I can give you their contact info.

Well....House of Claredon explains it!! LOL Yeah- AMAZING...and the price to go with it! Other options: Rosie's Creative Cakes, Manheim (she's been featured here on the Knot) Bella Manse, Millersville- she also is a knot favorite Sweet Encounters, Reamstown/Ephrata area All of these ladies do amazing work and should be priced somewhat lower than House.
