who stands where

I know I saw a post here previously about which side the groom and the groomsmen stand and which side is for the bride and the bridesmaids.
It's a non religious ceremony.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanx ladies!

Typically the bride is on the left, but I've seen it done both ways for non-religious ceremonies. I don't think there's really any rule, but I bet the tradition evolved from sword hands.

You bet that it did ringy!  My H likes to talk about that stuff.

And just to clarify what ring_pop said, as you're walking up the aisle, the Bride and BM's and such are on the left.

We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

We're talking about how men used to carry a sword to protect themselves. Since most people are right handed, most men wore their swords on their left so that it could pulled out using their right hand. Therefore, their bride stood to their left so that if anyone approached, the groom could whip out the sword and defend her.
