erin-  Our church has families in need fill out papers for things that their family needs.  Someone in the parish picks a family and they get gifts/things they need for the family and they also get Christmas dinner for them. I think it is such a wonderful idea.  I would check in your area too because I'm sure most places have something like it )

Prof - it seems like men are so much harder to shop for than women!  I'm sure you'll think of something great though.  My H is fairly easy to find stuff for, but I usually end up getting similar things (clothes, movies, etc.)  I need to make sure to remember to save our registry list somewhere, he added a bunch of tools to it that no one bought us, but will give me good gift ideas for the next few holidays!

Shawna, the family  Christmas thing sounds really cool.  I've done gifts off of the angel/giving tree before, which was always fun because as a kid I liked to choose someone my same age, but never heard of something like that.  How awesome that your family is doing that!

Erin - tools are a really great idea.  I keep forgetting that we need all kinds of home-improvement stuff now that we have a home.  

Shawna - our parish does the same thing!  Sadly I wasn't feeling well at mass on Sunday so in the confusion and hurry to get out and get some air I forgot to pick something up.  =(
