NWR Does anyone have ideas for a nice baptism gift for my godson?

I'm trying to think of a nice baptism gift for my brother's son, my godson.  When his older sister was baptised I got her a tiny crusifix on a short, child-sized chain.

Should I get my godson, the same gift as I got his sister? Or should it be a slightly larger gift because I'm his godmother?  If so, do you have any ideas?

I want it to be something religious, but also a keepsake that he won't grow out of.  So I guess books and clothes are out - what else is there?  A nice rosary?

I don't think books are necessarily out of the question--I still have, value, and intend to pass down to my children some of my favorite storybooks, children's book of saints, and Bible stories.  I think a nice illustrated collection of Catholic prayers, saints, or Bible stories (you know, the type with a fancy cover and gilded pages) would be a lovely gift that he can use throughout his childhood once he gets past the tearing-paper-stage.  You could have the cover imprinted with his name or initials and write a special message inside.

Another idea is a wall crucifix or other religious icon that could be hung above his crib, perhaps his patron saint?

Congratulations to your family on the blessing of your nephew/godson!

In terms of tangible gifts think art (wall crucifix, etc.), jewelry, a nice rosary, patron saint medal, etc. are all great. If I am close to a child, I like to give a children's bible and a nice adult bible (sort of one for now -- or soon -- and one for later).

We gave our godson a children's Bible, which hopefully his parents will read to him.  Or at least he could read it himself in 5-6 years.  I think it's one of the best things your godson can have to learn about God's love for him, a first step in forming his faith.

Also, I used to have one myself, and it holds lots of memories for me.

I got a sculpture from my GodFather with a bible verse on it, and I still have it :o)  So I think that something like that would work. Or a bible.  Good luck!
