Mass Wording Changes

What do you guys think about the changes in wording at mass? My Wedding is Decemebr 10, less than a month after the changes take place...I am worried that everyone is going to be LOST!!!! Any ideas?

Hi Chrissy -
A lot of Churches have been handing out information about the new wording changes.  Most Catholics should be well-versed by then.  However, there's this weird thing that happens at weddings where Catholics don't say responses as loudly as they would with a whole church of other Catholics.  Because I've seen this happen many times, I asked my priest if he could say the responses as well.  I don't know why the lack of response happens, but it's so awkward when it does!  I would just talk to your priest if you're worried!  Good luck!

I would talk to your priest. If you're really worried, you could include response details in your programs. Your parish may also have some sort of card/sheet/booklet that they will use for awhile until people are familiar with the new translation.

I also suspect that your Catholic guests will be familiar enough with it by then, and your non-Catholic guests won't really know much difference.

I have *heard* that parishes will have cards or "cheat sheets"  in their pew pockets. I sincerely hope so!

My home church has little response cards in the pews. The church I'm getting married at sent out a template with the new responses for us to include once or twice in the programs if we're worried about people not knowing them. Half our guests won't be Catholic anyway, so I'm putting it in the programs (and would be even if they hadn't changed) just so people don't feel lost.

In my experience, it's like pulling teeth to get a response out of anyone at a wedding Mass in the first place.  IMO, the new Missal won't add much insult to injury

As my priest said in his homily today as he was explaining the changes more, and kind of letting people know it's ok if it feels a bit "unsettling" or strange or confusing... 

"Just wait til Christmas, when all the people come who only come once a year! Now that'll be fun!"
