nerves

I am PETRIFIED of getting married.  IT has nothing to do with marriage itself, I know I love him and want to be with him forever.... The thing is, I HATE being the center of attention.  We are getting in a cathedral and EVERYONE looks at the bride when her music starts and she walks down.  This is the part that scares me, having everyone stare at me... Is this just me or does anyone else have weird things they are nervous about for the wedding?

Re: nerves

  • Hm, I kind of like being the center of attention, for a little while, so I don't share this fear. But if you're so nervous about it, why are you choosing to have the big cathedal wedding? Have you considered smaller and less scary alternatives?

  • I had the same thought at Eline, why the big cathedral wedding.  I'm like you, I don't like being the centre of attention either and have everyone stare at me however, I have the feeling that once i start walking down the aisle with my dad, I won't even see anyone else but the guy standing at my destination.

  • I share some of your nervousness I'm not usually the one at the center of attention.  But when I am I usually do something stupid like fall, trip, etc so I'm more nervous of tripping down the aisle then anything else.

  • I completely share your nerves! I absolutely hate being the center of attention and having everyone stare at me, yet I'm getting married in a cathedral church too with 175+ people watching. I seriously have such anxiety about this, but I'm hoping it'll fade in the months leading up to the wedding. I've been worrying about this from day 1, and it has lessened a bit so I have hope it'll go away! I'm a religious person so I've always  dreamed of getting married in our church, so any other option was out of the question. I just have to suck it up.

I hate being the center of attention as well but I plan on just looking straight ahead as I walk down the aisle.  I am not even going to look to my left or right.  Plus I will have 2 dads 1 on each side so hopefully that blocks me a little.

  • I completely understand...however, you're going to be so caught up in the moment I bet you won't even realize the people in the room other than your FI...My focus is going on him the entire way down =)
  • The reason we are having the big cathedral wedding is it is what we have always imagined and dreamed of... so I am not going to settle for a wedding we don't want because of the fear.  Honestly I would have it no matter the size of the church.  THank you for your support.  I will have to think and focus on that instead of thinking and focusing on everyone standing up when the doors open and staring a me
  • I'm very fearful of dancing since we are deaf and I'm afraid people are going to laugh at us! I'm just relieved that my dress is long so people can't see my legs/feet very much :)

But walking down the aisle, I'm pretty excited about this. I'm looking forward to having my dad walk with me and seeing everybody- especially my FI and the wedding party!

Walking down the aisle will only take few seconds and it'll be all over with in an instant! I'm sure you'll be okay

  • I was nervous about tripping when I walk down the aisle, but my recent purchase of flats has gotten rid of that, so I'm not too nervous anymore..  I'm probably most nervous about the dancing, because I think I dance funny, and don't want people watching me.

  • I don't much care for having everybody's attention at once, either.
When I'm nervous, which I will be, my hands and feet get clammy.
FI is used to it completely, but they are going to be extra clammy that day.....hahaa
