Marriage License

I have a question - is it required by the catholic church to have a blood test taken for your marriage license, or is this a state requirement?  The state i reside in, does not require one, but the paper from the church states something about blood tests.  Can anyone tell me what the requirement is?

Thanks!!

The blood test is a state thing.  Neither California nor my church required it of us.  I wonder if your church is using a standardized form that mentions bloodwork because other states require it?  I'd confirm with either your priest or the parish coordinator.

It has to be a state thing. We were not required to do one in the state of Ohio (where we were married) nor take one as required by our church.

I do remember my parents talking about how they used to do blood testing back when they got married in the late 1970's.

I want to say you used to have a blood test to see if you had syphillis. I know PA didn't require it.
