Civil Ceremony and Catholic wedding

Can you have a civil ceremony before deployment and then have your wedding in the Church?

your priest would probably marry you before the deployment if you approach him and explain the situation.  this would be the best route to go.

do you attend mass regularly now?  is your priest aware of your situation?

I would definitely go the route calypso mentioned as I don't think getting a convalidation granted is an easy process. And the you could always have a AHR after he returns home.

I would talk to your priest ASAP. He will have the best advice to give you. I have heard of priests taking both approaches.

This.  If they deployment isn't for months, he might recommend that you have the church wedding before your FI leaves so that the sacrament will be done.

A friends daughter was faced with this dilemma last year.  The priest explained their options and they chose a small, family only wedding before deployment.

My best guess is that they will have a nice reception later when everything has settled down.

We were in a similar situation as my husband is from the UK and we wanted to start his immigration process early. We had a civil ceremony and were told by our priest that as long as it was at least six months before our catholic wedding that it was ok. We are getting married in 11 months. Hope this helps!!
