Organ or keyboard?

Hi ladies! I was wondering what everyone's preference was on their big day?
I've been talking with different organists/keyboardists at different price points.

Which did you use? And if you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay?

Thanks!

  • Welcome to the board!

We're going with the organist from our church, they have a pipe organ that sounds beautiful at mass, so I never even considered looking for another option (one less thing to worry about!).  Her fee is $150.
  • We used a pianist who also did the cantoring. Her fee was $200 and she was amazing. The chapel where we were married does not have an organ, so it was not an option. I personally prefer piano (all those lessons left some imprint!), but organ is certainly more traditional.

    Also, welcome! Please stick around!

I say nothing beats the very regal sound of the organ.

Our organist was based at $300, but because we also paid $350 for a harpist, the organist fee went up to match.

ETA: And welcome!  Please come play more often!

  • The church had  an organist and soloist provided for $250, used or not.  That was the only fee the church requested.

We also hired a trumpeter & flutest to accompany.  I don't remember how much they cost though
  • I would prefer organ, but it is currently broken, so we may have to have piano (wedding in 3 weeks).  We don't have a set price to pay the musicians, because we had to find them on our own.  Probably paying about 100-150.
  • We could've picked organ or keyboard, but I love my church's huge pipe organ. Cantor and organist total are $100.

  • I've never heard the organ used during our Mass, which is why I was a little... hesistant. But I think a lot of people do use it for weddings! I do love the regal idea of it all!

<div>The chapel at my husband's college (where we attended mass a LOT) has an organ, but I've never heard it played.  It's mostly a student mass and they work with the resources they have.</div><div>
    </div><div>But yeah, that's sad.</div><div>
</div><div>Edit:  MT, I youtubed organ versions of all of the songs I wanted for our wedding, which really helped me pick the songs.  I would definitely suggest that if you're unsure.</div>

  • Our organist is $250.  The cantor fee would have been $150 but my aunt is going to sing (we are giving her a $100 gift card for a nice dinner with her husband).  FI's family is also hiring a bagpiper, but I don't know how much that is.

  • I love the organ for weddings.  My parish provides the organist, and the set fee was I think $200 or $250.  It was the same fee for piano, actually.

  • I would prefer an organ to an electric keyboard.

We used a string quartet and a choir... but I know typically organists fees are about $150 to $250 in our area
  • Our struggle is that we go to a mostly Hispanic church [there's literally one Mass in English]... but his family is American. Also, the house keyboardist is just that; he doesn't play organ.. or really speak English.
So we had to find an outside person to come in to play as well as sing in English!
But we're all set now! :) We're in the single digits! lol
