How's everyone doing?

How was your weekend?  Anything exciting in the upcoming week?

I had a GREAT weekend. I had my bridal shower, and it was even better than I could have imagined.  The food and company were amazing.  I was a little nervous about the guests who wouldn't know anyone, but I played friend matchmaker a little, and everyone got along great!  Now I'm struggling with the temptation to take everything out of it's package and put it away!  I live in a tiny 1 bedroom condo, and I don't have space for all these big, bulking boxes.  But etiquette says you can't use the gifts til after the wedding....

Creighton is going really well.  My follow-up appointment was reassuring.  I had a couple corrections on my chart, but otherwise I feel like I did really well.  FI definitely is taking a back-seat position in it all right now, but at least he's being supportive.  He's going to the appointments, and he's totally on-board with the method.  He just isn't reading the book or any of that.  I think it's hard for him because we're not married yet, so it's not like he is really part of charting yet.  Once we're married, it'll be relevant to him what color the sticker is and all that, so I'm confident he'll take a really active role at that point.  I think he actually feels a little left out right now, though LOL.  What have your experiences with FI/H and NFP been?

Re: How's everyone doing?

  • Resa,

You put the observation in the chart, he can choose the sticker.
  • Still tricky for me getting the hubs participating in the charting and we've been married over a year!  We've just started attempting the strategy that agape mentioned above... but it's a slow adaptation process because he's just used to depending on me to keep track of the charting and I'm pretty lazy about it!

I'm a bit overwhelmed with work and life lately... especially having to get a needle biopsy done of one of my lymph nodes due to a suspicious-looking neck ultrasound.  I'm 98% positive that it's nothing... especially since I had a horrendous cold when I had the scan done and my thyroid was fully removed over 9 years ago... I'd just like them to get that diagnosis done so I can go ahead and start getting pregnant already!  Yeesh.
  • Newly-- I hope everything turns out fine.  That's so exciting that you're going to start TTC soon!!!!  I can't wait to see pictures of a Newestseliski once he/she is born :)

Agape -- I intend on doing that once we're married, and hopefully that'll be an easy enough habit to start.  For now, though, it's not practical since we don't live together and I can't make record my observation until bedtime :)

  • Yes, you can. He keeps the chart at his house. You call him and tell him what the code is and he records it, then puts the sticker on.

Or you can put the codes in, and whenever you get together, he puts the stickers on, catching it up.

or you both can have charts.
  • Ressa, in the early stages of learning Creighton, my now-H was exactly the same. He was feeling sad that he wasn't going to be my knight with shining thermometer every morning (I found out later that he had some fantasy about helping be Mr. Temp Man with NFP once we were married), and couldn't confirm my actual observations, and because we weren't living together, he couldn't help much with charting. Plus, because I ended up on yellow stickers, what he could see showed me as fertile almost all month, which was frustrating.

Once we had yellow stickers going and he was able to see a few months of charts to see a bigger picture, he ended up 100% on board. After we were married, he became the Knight with Shiny Stickers. It took him a little bit to feel comfortable choosing the sticker, but I was confident that I could help him. It gave us a regular chance to talk about my chart, my cycle, our decisions. We got very comfortable with the communications aspect of things, which made the decision to TTC much easier to make.

Speaking of TTC, Newly, you and your test will be in my prayers. I want you to get on with getting pregnant, too! )

AFM -- No work today! DH and I are getting ready to head to daily mass, so that should be nice. Will probably post more later. ;)

  • That's good to hear , Biblio!  I think FI wants to be involved, but just isn't quite sure how he fits into it just yet.

I get to meet with our music director to pick out ceremony music tonight.  I can't find a processional I really love.  I want something that is kinda upbeat and dramatic, if that makes sense.  Just haven't found it yet.

  • Biblio- I love your "knight with shiny stickers"  that made my whole day lol :o)

  • Well, my day didn't start great, but it's definitely looking up!  I just got home from an interview (at a school that is less than 10 minutes from our home) and they already called to offer me a job.  =)  I have another interview today, so I've got to go to that, but I think I'd rather work in the district that just offered me a job.  It would be nice to work at a smaller school for a change.  They said they have about 2200 students (9-12), which is how big my last school was (just 9-10!).

Newly -- I agree with Bibli!  Let's get some more babies up in here!

Resa -- I chart on an app on my phone, so H is pretty much out of the loop, but we do talk pretty often about what I'm showing.  I think it will become way more relevant to him once you're married.  Does he go to the classes with you?  H really enjoyed the Billings classes more than I thought he would (the words "cervical mucus" turn him into a squirming, grossed-out six-year-old).

  • Resa- I'm really glad your shower went well! It's so exciting isn't it?  I know how you feel about wanting to unpack all the presents, I'm an organizing freak so it's weird to just have them sitting in boxes in my room.  Also, FI was sad when I told him we had to wait until after the wedding to use the stuff lol!

AFM- We had our engaged encounter this weekend.  It was such a great experience.  I really feel like FI and I are on the same page and ready to share this sacrament.  I really can't wait now, especially because I really feel like we are a team now. :o)

  • Shawna, I'm so glad EE went well for you!  I knew it would...as I said, it is what you make of it.  You went into it with an open mind, and walked out feeling ready to do this thing!  That's awesome!

Prof -- YAY!!!!  I'm so happy for you that the job situation is working out for you!  And since you apparently have a direct line to the patron saint of finding jobs, throw in a good word for FI?  He just graduated and is looking for a job.  It would be GREAT if he found one now-ish!

  • Yay! for the job offer, Prof! And good luck at the 2nd interview -- you never know what might come of it! I'm glad for all of the blessings on the board -- great EE experiences, great showers, etc. God is so good.

Prayers for all those who need them -- especially all of those looking for work. I know too well how frustrating those experiences can be!

  • Professor! Congrats!!!
I'm really starting to stress about what's going to happen next year.  I have a bunch of resumes/applications out.  I have one "interview" this week.. In quotes because she said she'd call me to set up an interview the week after their school was done. It's still not setup.  Other than that, nothing. I don't want to worry about it, I have so much more to worry about and get set up in the next few weeks.
  • Chelsea -- I hope the job situation works out for you.  It sucks to stress about that so close to your wedding, but it seems like you're handling it really well at least!

  • Wow! So much exciting stuff to reply to today! Prof - congrats on the job!! Woohoo! Newly - Hoping your biopsy is okay and I will agree that we need some more babies up in here! :) Honestly I never liked babies until I had one. Resa - glad you shower went well. This is the first summer in a long time that we haven't had some type of baby or wedding shower in my family and I'm going through shower withdrawal and have to live vicariously.

As for getting FI/DH involved in charting, I'm going to have to try some of these ideas. Mine doesn't seem super interested in being involved, but would be if I asked. He is also usually not home during the week and some days we don't even have the chance to talk to each other. But it sounds like there must be a way to work it out.

AFM - My little dude had his 9-month check up today which went well. And now, since it's my first day of summer break, I have a long to-do list to get started on!

  • Lots of stuff going on with the Catholic board ladies this week!  Congrats to those who had happy news, and thoughts and prayers to newly and chelsea (and anyone else who need them! Smile)

Today has been crazy busy for me at work, hence why I haven't posted until the last hour of the workday.  It probably didn't help that I had a horrible night's sleep last night, worrying about the wedding reception and the costs - the venue has made 2 changes to their menu/pricing since we picked it.  The contract did say menus were subject to change so it's not like they weren't allowed to do it, we just had budgeted for the prices that were given when we picked it, and might not have chosen it had we known about the higher prices.  It just stinks because we loved the venue and it seemed so great at first, now my opinion of it is just a little soured, and FI is pretty annoyed too.

I like all the great suggestions on getting FI/H's involved in charting - mine isn't really yet, but I hope to involve him more once I get a handle on what I'm doing.  I was surprised that he was as supportive/open to the idea of using NFP in the first place, so I don't want to overwhelm him with is!
