doctor on thursday!

So...im seeing my doctor on Thursday for my annual exam.  i have a list of questions i'm putting together for her since there is a good chance i might be pregnant in the next year (we are gonna start trying this fall).  the biggest issue i know of is my weight.  im desperately trying to lose 20-30 before we try.

Its exciting and scary all at the same time!

    Yay!  Hope it goes well!

When I told my doctor at my annual exam in Feb that I wanted to TTC, she was more than thrilled.  She gave me a prescription for pre-natals, and told me to take several other over the counter vitamins in addition to the prenatal. She ran a full blood panel, and got my blood typing out of the way (Rh + so no rhogam shots for me.  Whoo hoo!).  Get used to giving blood, they've taken so much since I've gotten pregnant. LOL

I am about 20-30 lbs overweight, too.  I started exercising and taking my vitamins and I lost about 10 lbs before I conceived.  The OB himself hasn't said anything about my weight.  They may tell you that you should only gain 20 lbs while pregnant instead of 30.  But my doctor said I should expect to gain about 30.

    Hope everything goes well!

honestly, im 40 pounds overweight, but 20 is more realistic to try to lose.  im really just nervous about having a hard pregnancy.  my BFF had all sorts of problems - gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, etc.  i dont want to deal with that if i can help it.

    Oh definitely.

My friend had pre-eclampsia with her middle child (she's pregnant with the 3rd and due any second).  Baby was born 6 weeks premature because her blood pressure was so high and they had to deliver then.  For her 1st & 3rd pregnancies, she's had no issues.  Her middle child is constantly regarded as being underweight and in the lower percentiles for her age.

Even if you don't have issues with this pregnancy, you may if you have future children.  Or the reverse is also true.  I'd just start exercising now to get you in the habit of doing it so you can continue when you do get pregnant.

They say you're only supposed to gain 1lb during 1st tri, and if you gain like 10 lbs, you're more likely to get GD.  All though I've known women who have gained 15 lbs 1st tri and were fine.  If diabetes or GD runs in the family, the doctor will be extra careful.

My OB threatened to carve anything over 20 pounds off my body!

And I'm 120 lbs & 5'8", guess some doctors are pretty strict on this.  I had M at 27 weeks and I was already up 19lbs. Probably a good thing because she was almost 2 1/2 lbs which is good size for that gestational age.

My sister's doctor told her 30 lbs.

im guessing today, given that we are a larger generation overall, that theyve had to loosen up a bit on how much weight they tell people to lose or gain.  but its certainily no secret that the bigger you are the higher the risk for issues.
