Fun Question

So as OOT said in her earlier post about the 15 yo girl who was getting confirmed and how her answer made others laugh it made me think of when I was a kid and a question for everyone.

When you were little did you hear things wrong and think nothing of the meaning (because you didn't know what the real word meant)?

Like when I was little in the our father I thought we were saying  "Our father who aren't in heaven  halloween be thy name...  lol

This isn't so much hearing things wrong... but when I was little I always wondered who or what Melchizedek was. But then I could never remember the word long enough to ask!

I can't think of anything right now besides song lyrics (since most pop/rock singers tend to have terrible diction).  There was, however, an episode of Cougar Town on recently when Courtney Cox's character thought some of the words in the Pledge of Allegiance were different.

The cutest one I can remember is when my sister got picked up from nursery/Sunday School (raised protestant) and proudly showed us her picture of Baby Roses. It was just so sweet.

I don't remember anything other than when I used to draw pictures I sometimes would draw God, Jesus and my Grandpa in the clouds and when my mom asked who it was I told her it was them and they were in heaven.

I do think there were some words to prayers that I was probably saying wrong until high school when we were tested on prayers and I had to write them out! Like I knew it but one or two words might have been off because I had been saying them so fast my whole life and never had to actually write it down.

I probably had some word confusion when I was little, but just had to mention one that came up yesterday.
We were at FI's family's house for Father's day, and I was talking to his neice about the wedding, as she will be a flower girl/junior bridesmaid, and she was asking what she had to do and what she had to wear. After I explained, she proclaims, and [her brother] will have to wear a bear suit right!?!.... I was a bit confused, until she added that he needed to wear the bear suit because he was the "ring bear". I literally laughed-out-loud!

My daughter & I would go to see various family members in New Jersey occasionally, usually on weekend.

One night we were driving back to the city,( she was about 6) and she asked me if we could go through the Lincoln Tunnel rather than over the George Washington Bridge.  There's not much difference in time or distance so I did.

Keep in mind that this was pre Guilanni and 42nd & 8th Avenue was a pretty nasty place before the clean up in the 90s.  Hookers on every corner, etc.

When we got home, I asked her why she wanted me to take that route rather than our usual way of over the GW Bridge.

"Oh, I just wanted to see all the protestants"

    LOL @oot

Reminds me of that great joke.  A young woman comes home to see her Catholic grandmother after being on her own for several years.  She goes to her grandmother, and with tears in her eyes, says, "Grandma, I'm sorry but I have to confess that I went off to become a prositute."  The grandma, in horror, asked, "What??"  And the granddaughter said, "Yes, grandma, that's right, I was a prostitute."  To which Grandma replied in relief, "Oh thank God, for a minute I thought you said PROTESTANT!"

    lol those are great!

We always prayed before meals, "God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food" etc. and when I was little, not really thinking about the words but knowing it had to do with our meal, always thought we were saying "lettuce thank Him..."

Oh my gosh, I think I was maybe 8 or 9....I still giggle inside sometimes when I think about the line in the Eucharistic Prayer: "on whose constant intercession we rely for help." I remember getting in the car after Mass asking my dad, which Wisconsin intersection we're relying on??? How do we know where it is??

I don't think I ever said this, but I'm sure lots of kids think that the Act of Contrition begins with, "Oh my God, I am hardly sorry for all my sins..."

I'm 23 so this is hardly the mistake of a child, but up until about a week ago, when we were supposed to say, "May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory, of his name, for our good, and the good of all his Church."  I was saying "May the Lord accept the sacrifice into your hands..." and I kept wondering why we switched from addressing the Lord from second to third person in that sentence, thinking that I was asking God to accept the sacrifice into his hands.  I have spent hours over the last eight years or so pondering this grammatical conundrum and it just occured to me last week to Google it.  Tongue out

This isn't really mishearing something, but still very cute. When my nephew was little his mother used to sing Jesus Loves Me to him. One day we walked in the room where he was playing and he was singing to himself "Jesus Loves Mom".

My fiancee is not Catholic and the first time I brought him home to meet the family I realized during mass that instead of shaking people's hands and saying " Peace be with you" he was repeatedly saying "Pleased to meet you", needless to see say I was horribly embarrassed.

    The Our Father\

"and lead a snot into temptation" instead of "and lead us not into temptation."

    It made sense to me!
