Addressing invite to priest

Hi Ladies,

I know I saw the response to this somewhere... but can't seem to find it.

1) How do I address the invitation to the priest that is marrying us?
2) FI & I are not getting married at our parish... should we invite the wedding coordinator, cantor, and pianist to our reception as well?

TIA. Laughing

We did not invite our organist (the church music director), our cantor or pianist to our wedding reception.

As far as how to address a priest:

    Outer: Rev. Father John O'Malley

    Inner: Father O'Malley

    Outer: The Reverend John Smith
    Inner: Father Smith

We did not invite any of the church musicians or coordinators to our reception.

We will invite the church coordinator, because she is someone we are friendly with anyway and it seems like the right thing to do. We are not inviting the pianist/cantor or any other persons associated with the wedding (eg person doing our paperwork).

"Very Reverend" was the title I used for the outer.  I had no inner.  That title was also on his business card.

    Hope this helps!

I recently wrote this for another post so sorry if people think this looks familiar.

Transitional deacon: Reverend Mr. or DeaconPermanent deacon: Deacon

    Diocesan priest: The Reverend
Priest who are members of religious orders: The Reverend Father
Priests who are abbots of monasteries: The Right Reverend

Monsignor: The Very Reverend or The Reverend Monsignor (this one isn't as clear as the others because monsignor is an honorary title and not a part of the Sacrament of Holy Orders so the titles change culture to culture)

Bishop: The Very Reverend or The Most Reverend

Keep in mind that this is just for the Latin Rite Catholic Church.  It will change for those who are in the Eastern Catholic Church.

Also, you may see some priests sign with their academic degrees like PhD, DCL (Doctor of Canon Law), DD (Doctor of Divinity), etc.  For a wedding, I wouldn't mention it, just like I wouldn't put DDS (dentist) or Esq. (lawyer) for any of the lay people.

I just Put Father ( and his name) and Deacon ( his name and his wife's name) We aren't inviting anyone else from the church. The organist we had to hire outside the church and we won't be inviting him either.
