Yes, I understand that there is a different way of life.  However, the reasons for having lots of children in some areas are because of things like a high infant mortality rate, needing help around the home, or needing extra incomes.  This things are affected by "modernization", so to speak.

There are places where men kill their wives if they find out that she is using some kind of artificial birth control, or even if she isn't "giving him" the sons that he desires, which we all know is based on his genes and not hers.  I'll look to see if I can find the documentary I watched in my anthropology class that discussed this.  The number of women who were set on fire in some cultures was disgustingly high.

The fact remains that in many countries around the world, women might not have a choice to have sex with their husband without being beaten.  They can't use NFP for this reason, they have to result to birth control, which many women are killed for using if their husband finds out.  Sexism results in many things... violence against women, higher birth rates, etc.  Higher birth rates impact the enviroment, because obviously 5 children will use up more resources over the course of their lifetime than 2 children will.  The entangling of all these social issues is what makes it all so complicated.
